In another round of expected condemnation, another central bank head has voice opposition to decentralized cryptocurrency.
This time the Governor for the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has come out against Bitcoin, calling it a gamble.
He specifically states:
Cryptocurrency or bitcoin is like a gamble, and there is a need for everybody to be very careful. We cannot as a central bank give support to situations where people risk savings to ‘gamble.’
Bitcoin's meteoric rise has been met with disdain by financial regulators around the global. Emefiele is not the first to come out in opposition. Numerous other central banker have voiced concerns over bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general, speculating that the asset class is either a bubble or that it facilitates criminal activity. Still no word on when the bankers responsible for crashing the global economy 10 years ago will face prosecution, or what steps will be done to prevent and punish banks like HSBC who break the law and face only pointless fines.
