Being at Satoshi School is to build autonomy! As much for students, as for tutors, teachers and other collaborators. Having the opportunity to work with a methodology that seeks to help people discover their talents and put them in favor of community development is undoubtedly more than rewarding. The location of Satoshi Schools, in the rural area of Kampot in Cambodia, makes the work even more pleasurable! Pure air, beautiful mountains and good humored people, is what the best this region has to offer. The result is noticeable in our students – cheerful, curious, thoughtful and proactive children!
Currently many schools work with projects in some way. The difference in SatoshiSchool’s projects, however, is that the student actively engages in the whole process, co-participating and being co-responsible for the planning and development of the activities, together with his tutor and expert. The role of the expert represents another innovative initiative, since it enlarges the approaches to each skill and content worked on in the project, connecting the ideas with the dimension of possibilities the student can perform in society.
SatoshiSchool Steemit innovative methodology supports learners in exploring and developing in a broad range of key skills and competencies, through collaborative, project-based learning.
In practice, we are schools that uses projects instead of rigid curriculum, integrated assessment rather than exams, and steemit technology that helps the learner understand how they learn. We create this richly supportive learning environment through our 6 key pillars:
01
Steemit Mosaic Curriculum
The curriculum is carried out in practice through different modalities, such as projects, workshops, research and other activities, among with the experience of the participative management at the school. For the planning of these activities, we consider the interest and needs of learning and development, including the active participation of students. The Competence and Content Matrices coordinated through the Digital Steemit Mosaic platform lays out the key skills and competencies the learner is supported in at SatoshiSchool-including critical thinking, communication, creativity, self-directed learning, and more.
02
Tutor and Master
The teacher becomes the development mentor, the Tutor, and the projects are led by content area experts, the Masters. Together, Tutors and Masters work closely to lead the implementation of a learning project, while making sure each learner’s individual learning goals and needs are supported–throughout the course of the project, as well as through their life at the school. All will be recorded on steemit website.
03
Multi-age groups
The enrichment of school life happens when students of different ages collaborate in one environment, which creates the opportunity for students to learn and socialize amongst themselves as in real life, and allows their development and exchanges of experiences unfold in a mutual and natural way.
04
Active Learning
Students learn more when they participate in the process of learning, whether it’s through discussion, practice, review, or application. With learners at the center, Active Learning promotes participatory and active construction of understanding through real world materials and experiences.
This facilitates deeper learning, and mobilizes the learner as they discover their strengths and engagement with the larger world.
05
Participatory Management
In the SatoshiSchool Methodology, pedagogical practices, social relations and the organization of daily school life are managed in a participative way–that is, involving all agents that participate in the day to day school experience: administrative team, pedagogical team and students. Everyone participates in the plans for development and enrichment from experience at the school. The school environment operates as a participatory and democratic society, in order to guide children and young people in their engagement with society-both in their present and in the future.
06
Integrated Assessment
Through our unique SteemMosaic curriculum, we collect evidence through the projects and tasks learners engage in that allows us to create a comprehensive portfolio in the learner and model their natural development across a range of competencies. We go beyond questions and exams, and engage the active participation of the learner who can reflect on their own performance.
