After the big news at Yahoo Finance concerning digital currencies, traders were expecting another good news: the adoption of Bitcoin by the giant of the Moscow Exchange. But it is not so. Explications!
Rumors about Moscow Exchange and Bitcoin
In recent days, all eyes have turned to Moscow, especially those investors in Bitcoin. The fact is that rumors circulated on the web and in the financial press about a possible adoption of Bitcoin by Moscow Exchange, the largest Russian stock exchange. These rumors have erupted since Russian Deputy Finance Minister Alexey Moiseev raised the subject in his interview with RSN.
Added to this is the announcement by Moex last August that they were building infrastructure to support cryptocurrency trading, particularly Bitcoin and its derivatives. Many thought then that it was really done, and yet it is not so, at least for the moment.
"No, it's not done yet"
The Moscow Exchange was quick to sweep the rumors through a spokesman. The latter told CoinDesk that the information that Moscow Exchange was about to formalize cryptocurrency transactions was completely unfounded. The representative added that "these rumors" were rather caused by the statements of Deputy Minister Moiseev, who stipulated that "the cryptocurrency trading in the country should be limited to certain investors who participate in regulated exchanges".
This denial of the Moscow Exchange therefore only confirms the fact that Russia has not yet officially defined the legal status of cryptocurrency like Bitcoin.
But it's underway!
But that Russian traders in bitcoin are reassured (and be patient), Moscow Exchange would indeed be studying the idea of adopting cryptocurrencies. The long-awaited "cryptocurrency trading infrastructure" is well underway as announced, although it is unclear when it will be formalized.
Meanwhile, the representative of the Moscow Exchange also explained in his statements:
"We are in principle ready to organize transactions on any financial product, as long as we see that there is sufficient demand from the market, and that corresponding legal framework, as well as investor protection, are in place. "
