Two days ago, Bitcoin reached the incredible figure of $90,000, and my elderly neighbor, who is always watching TV, asked me about it because he had seen the news not once but twice on the news channel.
Hey, I just saw on the TV that with Trump’s election as President of the United States, Bitcoin has skyrocketed. You must be very happy, right?
More or less, that's what he told me. And since I'm such a nice person, and I know many new people are going to enter the ecosystem now, here are 3 FAKE MYTHS ABOUT BITCOIN to share with your friends or use to look smart next time an acquaintance brings them up.
1. Bitcoin is the currency of criminals.
This myth originated from the creation of Silk Road back in 2011, a dark web black market used to trade drugs and other illegal products.
It operated for only 2 years before it was shut down by the FBI.
In this market, Bitcoin was used as the currency since it was "more anonymous" than a bank card and wasn’t controlled by any centralized entity.
The reality is that various studies show that fiat money is by far the most common medium for financial crimes and money laundering. If you don’t believe me, you can check this 79-page report by the U.S. Department of State.
Not only is the volume of crimes committed with Bitcoin infinitely smaller than those committed with fiat, but the transparent and immutable nature of blockchain makes it much easier to trace how criminals move their money between wallets or services to convert their cryptos into fiat.
Contrary to what many believe, Bitcoin is not completely ANONYMOUS, leading us to the second myth.
2. Bitcoin is ANONYMOUS.
Bitcoin isn’t entirely anonymous, or at least it's challenging to maintain total anonymity. Each transaction is permanently and immutably recorded on the blockchain, making it easy to trace where the money is going and where it came from. Most cryptocurrency-to-fiat exchange services require KYC (Know Your Customer) to use them, so if you’re not extremely careful with your privacy, someone who knows where to look could find clues to discover what they’re searching for.
3. Bitcoin is too expensive.
This myth is one of the easiest to debunk, and we’ll use logic to do so. First, expensive or cheap? What defines the value of something? But we're not here for a philosophical debate.

So, although the value of Bitcoin is high and its nature indicates it will be even higher in the future, the number of fractions it can be divided into makes it quite accessible for all budgets. Even if you can’t afford to buy a whole Bitcoin and only have 1 cent in your pocket, you can still buy 11 Satoshis.

Bitcoin is one of the most important monetary revolutions of all time, and for the first time in history, we, the ordinary people, can lead this revolution and position ourselves before governments and institutions join in.

1. Bitcoin es la moneda de los Delincuentes.
Este mito tiene sus fundamentos en el nacimiento de Silk Road allá por del 2011, un mercado negro de la deep web para comercializar con drogas y otros productos ilegales.

En este mercado se usaba bitcoin como moneda de cambio ya que era más "anónimo" que la tarjeta bancaria y no está bajo el control de ninguna entidad centralizada.
La realidad es que diversos estudios demuestran que el dinero Fiat es con diferencia el medio más común para realizar crímenes financieros y de lavado de dinero si no me crees puedes creerle a este informe de solo 79 páginas del Departamento de Estado de U.S
Y es que no solo el volumen de crímenes realizados con Bitcoin es infinitamente menor al de realizados con Fiat sino que gracias a la naturaleza transparente e inmutable de la blockchain es mucho más fácil rastrear como los criminales mueven su dinero entre billeteras o servicios para convertir sus criptos a FIAT.
Y es que a pesar de lo que muchos creen Bitcoin no es completamente ANÓNIMO y eso da paso a nuestro segundo mito.
2. Bitcoin es ANÓNIMO.
Bitcoin no es totalmente anónimo o al menos es bastante difícil mantener un total anonimato, debido a que cada transacción se registra de forma permanente e inmutable en la blockchain es fácil rastrear hacia donde y de dónde viene el dinero y la mayoría de servicios de intercambio de criptomonedas a FIAT requieren un KYC (Know Your Costumer) para poder utilizarlos, entonces si no eres extremadamente cuidadoso con tu privacidad alguien que sepa dónde buscar podrá encontrar las pistas para descubrir lo que busca.
3. Bitcoin es demasiado caro.
La verdad es que este mito es uno de las más fáciles de desmentir y vamos para ellos a apoyarnos en la lógica.
Para empezar Caro ...Barato? Cuál es la medida del valor de algo? Peeero no estamos aquí para entrar en un debate filosófico.

Todas las monedas tienes una unidad de división el USD lo podemos dividir en 100 centavos, la unidad de división de Bitcoin se llama Satoshi y cada Bitcoin se puede dividir en 100 000 000 de Satoshis, sí leíste bien 100 millones.
Si hacemos las cuentas y al precio actual con 1 USD puedes comprar 1080 Satoshis así que a pesar de que el valor de Bitcoin es alto y por su naturaleza todo indica que lo será más en el futuro la cantidad de fracciones en las que se puede dividir lo hace bastante accesible para todos los bolsillos, sino puedes permitirme comprar un Bitcoin y solamente tienes 1 centavo en tu bolsillo que sepas que puedes comprar 11 Satoshis.
Conclusiones
Bitcoin es una de las revoluciones monetarias más importante de todos los tiempos y por primera vez en la historia somos nosotros, las personas de a pie los que podemos liderar esta revolución y posicionarnos antes que lleguen los gobiernos y las instituciones.
Hoy en día todos quieren opinar aunque no tengan idea de lo que hablan, hay otros tantos que que quieren engañar para ganar ventaja o para no perder su posición de poder, pero desmentir estos mitos y otros tantos es tan fácil como realizar una búsqueda concienzuda en internet y recomendar este post a cuanta persona puedas.
