The Chair of the University of Indonesia's Management Science (PPIM) Postgraduate Program, Prof. Dr. Irwan Adi Ekaputra advised the young generation to explore the blockchain because it will become the mainstay technology in the future. Whatever the current scientific background, according to him, students must master technology and have creativity as a provision.
This was among others conveyed by Prof. Irwan when giving a public lecture on blockchain technology and crypto currencies in the Meurah Silue Hall of the Malikussaleh University of Salt, Lhokseumawe, on Saturday July, 20 2019.
Irwan argues, blockchain technology will be a mainstay of the future in various fields. He gave an example in the field of accounting, in the future it has been replaced with blockchain technology. The characteristics of the decentralized blockchain and its open nature make the blockchain have many advantages.
"In the future, the duties of an accountant may be replaced with blockchain technology," he said in front of lecturers, businessmen, students, the cryptocurrency community, teachers, and students.
Answering the concerns of an Accounting Study Program student, Prof. Irwan reminded that mastery of information technology and creativity became the solution to the distortion of human work by technological developments.
Irwan also reminded that blockchain technology is not only related to cryptocurrency, although the technology has become the basis for forming cryptocurrency since it was introduced by anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. The technology has now begun to be applied in various transactions and in the future will continue to be needed.
Regarding investment in the field of cryptocurrency, Irwan believes that there are no standards that are measured technically or fundamentally. Although there is research on a particular pattern regarding the increase and decrease in the price of certain cryptocurrency on certain days, that pattern cannot apply to all types of cryptocurrency and often changes. "Because of the very high volatility, I also have not dared to invest in the cryptocurrency market," says Irwan in a public lecture hosted by Dr. Mohd Heikal.
Some participants reminded that the risk of investing in the crypcocurrency market is very high, asking the government to make rules about the business to protect people's assets. "Do not let when there are many cases, then the government will intervene," says Assistant Dean of the General Affairs and Finance of the Economics and Business Faculty of Malikussaleh University, Yulius Dharma.
The Chairperson of PPIM, Malikussaleh University, Dr. Marbawi, said that the public lecture was not to encourage people to invest in the cryptocurrency market, but to provide general education about blockchain and cryptocurrency technology. "Many students and lecturers at Unimal have been investing for a long time, even with capital of creativity. Of course they have calculated the risks," says Marbawi. []

Ketua Program Pascasarjana Ilmu Manajemen (PPIM) Universitas Indonesia, Prof Dr Irwan Adi Ekaputra menyarankan generasi muda mendalami blockchain karena akan menjadi teknologi andalan di masa depan. Apa pun latar belakang keilmuan saat ini, menurutnya, mahasiswa harus menguasai teknologi dan memiliki kreativitas sebagal bekal.
Hal itu antara lain yang disampaikan Prof Irwan ketika memberikan kuliah umum tentang teknologi blockchain dan mata uang kripto di Aula Meurah Silue Kampus Lancang Garam Universitas Malikussaleh, Lhokseumawe, Sabtu (20/7/2019).
Irwan berpendapat, teknologi blockchain akan menjadi andalan masa depan di berbagai bidang. Ia menyontohkan di bidang akuntansi, di masa depan sudah digantikan dengan teknologi blockchain. Karakteristik blockchain yang terdesentralisasi serta sifatnya yang terbuka membuat blockchain memiliki banyak keunggulan.
“Ke depan, tugas-tugas seorang akuntan bisa jadi akan digantikan dengan teknologi blockchain,” katanya di hadapan para dosen, pengusaha, mahasiswa, komunitas cryptocurrency, guru, serta pelajar.
Menjawab kekhawatiran seorang mahasiswa Prodi Akuntansi, Prof Irwan mengingatkan bahwa penguasaan teknologi informatikan serta kreativitas menjadi solusi terhadap distrupsi pekerjaan manusia oleh perkembangan teknologi.
Irwan juga mengingatkan bahwa teknologi blockchain bukan hanya menyangkut dengan cryptocurrency, meski teknologi itu menjadi dasar dalam membentuk cryptocurrency sejak diperkenalkan oleh anonim Satoshi Nakamoto pada 2009. Teknologi tersebut kini sudah mulai diterapkan dalam berbagai transaksi dan ke depan akan terus dibutuhkan.
Mengenai investasi di bidang cryptocurrency, Irwan berpendapat belum ada standar yang terukur secara teknikal maupun fundamental. Meski ada riset mengenai pola tertentu mengenai kenaikan dan penurunan harga cryptocurrency tertentu pada hari tertentu, pola tersebut tidak bisa berlaku untuk semua jenis cryptocurrency dan sering berubah. “Karena volatilitasnya sangat tinggi, saya juga belum berani berinvestasi di pasar cryptocurrency,” ungkap Irwan dalam kuliah umum yang dipandu Dr Mohd Heikal.
Beberapa peserta mengingatkan risiko berinvestasi di pasar crypcocurrency sangat tinggi sehingga meminta pemerintah membuat aturan tentang bisnis tersebut untuk melindungi aset masyarakat. “Jangan sampai ketika banyak kasus, baru pemerintah turun tangan,” ujar Pembantu Dekan Bidang Umum dan Keuangan Fakultas Ekonomis dan Bisnis Universitas Malikussaleh, Yulius Dharma.
Ketua PPIM Universitas Malikussaleh, Dr Marbawi, menyebutkan kuliah umum tersebut bukan untuk mengajak masyarakat berinvestasi di pasar cryptocurrency, melainkan untuk memberikan edukasi secara umum tentang teknologi blockchain dan cryptocurrency. “Banyak mahasiswa dan dosen di Unimal sudah lama berinvestasi, bahkan kabarnya dengan modal kreativitas. Tentu mereka sudah memperhitungkan risikonya,” tandas Marbawi. []
