I think about once a week I see a message in the Splinterlands discord that goes something like this:
"I have enough ranking points and collection power to advance to silver. Shall I do that or not?"
While this is a highly subjective question, a lot of (veteran) players have the opinion that advancing a league, if your deck is not cut out for it, is a bad idea. So here is my take on this topic, which (of course) is only my subjective opinion:
Benefits of Advancing to a Higher League
If you are not playing for the top leader board spots in your current league, you definitely should advance to the higher one. The reasons for it are quite simple:
- Better daily rewards
- Better end-of-season rewards
- More DEC per win
Downsides of Advancing to a Higher League
- Get crushed by players with higher level cards
- Not being able to finish daily quests
- Big losing streaks that drain ECR and your joy of playing the game
Arguments against the Downsides of Advancing to a Higher League
All three of the counterarguments can be bundled to one big counterargument:
"Your opponents will be stronger than you are!"
I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement.
There are lots of players in the same position as you are, with lower level cards in a higher level league. If you advance from Bronze I to Silver III, chances are that most of your opponents will still use BCX1 cards.
If you start losing a lot of games in the higher league, you will fall down to the lower league again, which is where you won a lot of games already. So you will still be able to finish your daily quests, but can feel comfortable that you will get the higher end-of-season rewards, because you already advanced to the higher league.
Big losing streaks can always happen and if they happen because of the higher league you're in, it will soon stop after you drop back to the lower league.
But where is the prove?
As I mentioned in the beginning, this is a very subjective topic. Some people like to compete at their cards level and others like to get as many rewards as they can to increase their collection. I am definitely part of the second group.
The main reason why I think advancing to a higher league is the best course of action is because I always did. Whenever I got the chance to advance to a higher league, I did. If you have a look at my collection almost all of my cards are BCX1 (except for a few that are delegated to me). This deck is not even close to being a good Silver deck, but I still managed to enter Diamond III for the second time now. The delegated cards helped a little to get me there, but most of the time I rely on my strong BCX1 cards and tactics that I got to know along the way.
That is why I think you definitely should advance to a higher league if you have the chance to do so.
Do you agree with the above mentioned points and arguments? Did you make different experiences? Let me know in the comments!
