The blockchain for the new Nimiq coin (NIM) will be launched in around 24 hours (well, 25 at the time of writing).
Announced in June last year, the project aims include ease of use and scalability.
What makes this interesting is that mining takes place in your browser.
Yes, in your browser; without the need to install separate software, and not merely as an added extra as with other coins such as Monero, but as the primary mining mechanism.
It's an interesting idea that opens participation in mining to an infinitely larger number, rather than large server farms, with the consequent potential for wide distribution.
To learn more you can check out the blog of the team behind it (which I'm not at all affiliated with):
To begin mining, simply go to the main website
I'd be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on this.
