This week saw some great sounds coming to the Hive blockchain and at BlockTunes, we are happy to be apart of the action! This is such a great place to be able to discover new talent from all across the globe, and get paid to be engaged in the community!
This week we wrapped up our series on building your home studio, but we are just getting our blogging game kicked off! We aim to be one of the leading music blogs in the industry. This coming week, we have some great content in store, so make sure you follow us to stay up to date!
Weekly Development Updates
First I want to go ahead and get the house cleaning out of the way and let you guys know about some things that we have been working on for the platform and the MUSIC token.
Audio Counter
This week we have been working on an audio counter for the backend of our main site that will count the plays for each audio file in the music store, and send a CSV to the admins that display the title of the song, the artist, and the amount of plays.
We will be using these counts to pay a certain amount of $MUSIC tokens per play and pay out of the @blocktunesdao $MUSIC token holdings. This is the same pool that the delegation payouts for that account are paid from.
This counter only counts music in our store or on any on site playlists, such as the PRO artist bio pages. This gives a way for artists to be paid for their streams on the site!
Remember that staking $MUSIC tokens earns you a portion of the rewards from this account as well as the DAO account.
MUSIC Token Reward Tax
To help fuel the @blocktunesdao account, we initiated a 5% tax on the $MUSIC token rewards for posts that DO NOT use the BlockTunes front end on Hive to post their music content. This is similar to the way @leofinance works. If you use their tag and not their front end, they dock you 20% on the LEO token rewards.
We are only taxing 5%, but these tokens go into the rewards pool for people that delegate Hive Power to the @blocktunesdao account as well as to pay our artists that utilize the BlockTunes release service and PRO artists that list their own music for sale on their own store! This way, we do not have to go digging into the non-issued tokens and let those be distributed in a decentralized way.
We know, taxation is theft, but we are not taking the funds for our own gain, we are using them to help distribute to the community members that are supporting our project as well as the awesome musicians releasing music on our platform.
50/50 Liquid/Staked MUSIC Token Rewards
We made some modifications to the token distribution that will inevitably help distribution and decentralization over time. The first version of the distribution contract paid out 100% of the MUSIC rewards in liquid tokens. At first the idea was to let people use them to buy and mint NFTs, but we need people staking to help with the decentralized distribution of the token. So the change we made was to split the reward payout to 50% liquid and 50% staked MUSIC tokens. This helps distribution and gives you more stake weight in the community and the upcoming SWAP.HBD rewards!
Changes to on site storage
We will be making a change this week with our media library. The storage on our servers are quickly getting filled up and these days, upgrades are not cheap. What we will be doing is adding a link and also writing a post this week on how to load your music files to IPFS and display them in your BlockTunes on Hive posts! We will be moving all of the heavy files like @groove-logic's big video and STEM files for the special access NFTs to IPFS and providing the hash links in the special access area instead of linking to the files on our servers.
The only files we will be hosting on our servers will be the music files we release, and any video files used as NFT previews as the response time is much better than using IPFS. We actually have a built in link to IPFS, but the files are still stored on the server as well, which defeats the purpose of decentralization, and well, trying to save money on server costs.

Perfect World - it's the people that never change
The amazing @philsaatchi brings us an awesome original song that he produced back in 2015, but has certainly stood the test of time! It's a beautiful song about our planet and the video posted on @threespeak shows some great images from around the world! The soothing vocals and melody are bound to put you in a good mood!

Just A Little Nomadic Scratch Session
This week instead of his normal release, @groove-logic brings us a little nomadic scratch session using his portable Numark PT-01 scratch turntable! His funky style is fun to listen to and will get you in a grooving mood. So if you want to see him make some live beats using samples from the Novation Launchpad applicaiton and cutting it up on the wheel of steel (or really plastic in this case) then check it out!
