➽ Art? Blog XII ➽
There's a lot of advice for newcomers to steemit. Some of the advice is great and some of it is not. Almost without fail, though even the good advice is often misunderstood. Hopefully I can give you a new perspective on this advice and help everyone, newcomers and veterans alike. All the artwork is by @scarlet-rain, please follow and support this talented young artist.
Leaders care about the community
The first thing to remember about Steemit is that it's a social media based system. It seems such an obvious thing, but it's not. Everyone arrives here and immediately starts posting new articles with fervour, then they are inevitably disappointed with the results and often give up at this point.
If your posts are not successful, stop posting. Analyse your profile and check what your feed looks like. If someone was to visit your profile for the first time, would they be impressed by your blog and the well chosen, topical posts that you've resteemed or would they just see a load of random garbage that you've resteemed from the trending page hoping to catch the attention of a whale.
Make sure you reply to everyone. Don't leave open threads. If someone has taken the time to read and comment on one of your posts, respond immediately. Learn more about the community and the people that follow you.

For example, I know the sad story of why @artwatch stopped painting for many years. I know what @platonicsironic is studying. I know about the business that @headlessjess sells art and custom painted clothing at the market in Australia. I know that @errymil lives in California and only started painting a few years ago.
I know all of this because I have interacted with them and taken the time to find and read their posts and learn about them as people as well as artists. This has earned me not just followers, but friends.
Leaders listen more than they speak
Don't worry about how much money you're making or how many followers you have, rather try to find new connections by reading and commenting on posts that interest you.
Posting new articles will only benefit you if you have followers that care enough to read your content, but commenting in a meaningful way on other peoples posts could give you multiple upvotes from a single post. You will also make new friends and isn't that the point of a social media site?
We all want to gain followers and make a good profit but if you're only in it for the money, it's very obvious and you will never be successful.

Leaders never follow the crowd
Stop focusing on the trending page. Are you wondering why a certain individual just got over a thousand dollars for her blog and gets that for 5 days running. She does a great job and she deserves the upvotes but why are there are so many amazing blogs out there that don't get any recognition.
This is quite simply because people behave like sheep. Stop being a sheep and vote for articles that deserve it and stop wasting your voting power on hot and trending posts that are doing well without your help. There will always be sheep out there, but you can't change everyone else, you can only change yourself.
The number of followers you have really doesn't matter unless you're a spammer. You won't get upvotes unless you support your followers, read their articles and comment. Resteem only posts that are relevant.
Forget about people who use auto posting and autovoting sites as they are unlikely to care about you and obviously never read your posts. To succeed you must support one another and work together to make your steemit journey a success.
Finally, I'd like to welcome some new friends and family to Steemit as well. My brother @leelektrik has started a blog about musicians on Steemit and I'd also like to welcome @sharonnicholas who is a best selling author and artist. Welcome also welcome some amazing new musicians to Steemit - @owenkay, @danshaw, @shaewebbmusic and my sister @edenmichelle. And I'm sure you've already met my mom, @pandamama.

"I draw in my spare time mostly on paper but also on my computer from time to time. I've been watching anime since I was around 5 or 6 years old and I've been a big fan ever since. Which is why my art is so heavily inspired by anime."
