Hey dear Hive community, first of all I would like to wish you all a pleasant day and hope you were able to have one or the other positive experience! Today I would like to bring you a little closer to an interesting mineral and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.
Cassiterite can be seen here, which belongs to the mineral class of oxides and was named in the 19th century by the mineralogist François Sulpice Beudant (1787 - 1850). The name derives from the Greek from the word kassiteros, which means tinstone, refers to the tin contained, which is why and the high content of pewter, which is often over 80%, makes it particularly interesting as an ore. I have already written more about pewter in the past and who should be interested in it will find my contributions here and it is a pleasure for me today to be able to present this mineral, which is one of the most important ores. Most of the time, Cassiterite is of magmatic origin and is created by the transformation of rocks, but it can also be created by hydrothermal solutions and the most important places of discovery areas include Myanamar, China, Thailand, Mexico or Europe and from an industrial point of view the most important exporters are the first mentioned three.
The color of Cassiterite can vary greatly and is usually brown, black or red and a characteristic feature are the transparent crystals, which can often tend to form twins. Already the Greek author Homer mentioned Cassiterite and even then it was one of the most important ores for the extraction of pewter which was already used by the Romans and also the history of Cornwall in England, which is considered an important place for tin, has helped to shape it and in general it can be said that it has been one of the most important sources of tin since ancient times. In addition to mining as an ore, it is also particularly popular in collectors circles and theoretically it can also be processed into jewelry and is also often sold as a healing stone. As always, it is important to mention here that this is alternative medicine and you should always ask your trusted doctor or pharmacist about the correct use and possible side effects in order to avoid problems!
Many thanks for stopping by and I hope you like my new contribution! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
