Yesterday we’ve hit the 1 million mark for account registrations on the Steem blockchain. This is fantastic news indeed for all the users of this blockchain. However, there’s a lot of work cut out for Steemit Inc to speed up development and we cannot celebrate just yet.
We’ve got a million accounts registered but as we all know, thousands of bot accounts and name squatting are likely to be the majority amongst those signup numbers. Real active users are just around 60K as per the data provided here!
But even with such low numbers (compared to other established social media platforms) Steemit.com is already one of the popular sites in the world serving many million views in terms of its monthly traffic and attracting over 250K visitors everyday.
Steem blockchain is averaging over 1.5 million transactions daily and that’s higher than any other currently operational blockchain technology out there. You can check https://blocktivity.info/ for more info. Steem is fast, zero fees and as a proof of concept it works great.
We’re 2 years into the product but it will be sometime before we see version. For many including myself Steem has changed our lives for the better. But many still consider SMTs and Communities to be the real game changers. However, there’s also the talk about GPT-Good Person Tokens and Oracle Enchanced SMTs.

You can read more about GPT here and here. But there are many questions on everyone’s mind. How will all this play out?
Personally this has elevated my excitement levels towards these new developments. Like many of you, I was hoping to see some of these things implemented by now. The wait has felt rather long no? But I suppose we'll see them once they are perfected. The latest communication gives a high-level overview of the Steem ecosystem.
Building a social media platform on a blockchain isn't child's play exactly so I'm sure we could all do with a bit more patience? Perhaps GPT, SMT and Communities will be the much needed fix? Who knows. These are some difficult questions that can only be answered in time. I've been around for about 2 years now so personally I will stick around, watch, participate and find out for myself.
I've also been an ardent advocate for the Steem blockchain, Steemit and other UIs on this blockchain protocol right from the start. I speak about the platform, blockchain and cryptocurrency wherever I go and whoever I meet. I'm proud to be using this platform and will continue recommending it to others.
Steem is a proof of concept with phenomenal potential and it has worked quite well over the past 2 years. There are a few competitors in development today but I believe Steem blockchain and apps built on it will still hold first mover advantage in this space. I would love to see the Steemit.com move out of beta with solid features and capability to scale.
As I close this post, the question on my mind is when can we see these developments coming our way? What are your thoughts on platform so far and where do you see it going? What are your expectations?
