Welcome to my blog today. This post is on how procrastination can kill dreams, goals and success. Procrastination is the act of putting off or delaying activities that may need immediate attention. You keep procrastinating until you end up with piles of chores, duties and activities to attend to.
Susan lay on her bed, rehearsing how she would stand up from bed and go about her daily activities. This is her daily routine. She expects to get up by 6am, prepare for work and set out before 7:30 but she ends up leaving around past 8 every single day due to side attractions!
"Once I get up now, I will walk straight to the bathroom to ease myself, go ahead and wash the dishes in the sink, take my bath then prepare breakfast", she thought to herself as she surfed the internet.
"No!", she said aloud. "I will prepare breakfast first before taking my bath, to avoid sweating in the kitchen after bathing", she said to herself, smiling as if she had accomplished something worthwhile.
She continued browsing through her phone until she dozed off. She woke up after about 15 minutes and looked at her bedside clock and screamed.
"Ah! You will get yourself in trouble. Ever since I got this job few weeks ago, it has been one problem or the other. How do I get myself to do things when they are supposed to be done?", she questioned herself as she jumped from the bed into the bathroom. She hurriedly prepared for work, ate some snacks from the fridge and dashed out.
This is the case scenario for some people. They battle to stand up from bed. They keep postponing duties and are full of excuses why they couldn't keep up.
How to Overcome Procrastination
Firstly, you have to recognize that you are procrastination in order to tackle the problem adequately.
List out reasons for procrastinating.
Adopt strategies that would solve this problem like asking someone to check on you, setting up alarms, setting deadlines for activities, etc.
It is important not procrastinate as it is harmful to your success and that of people related to you one way or the other.
