2022 is here and with it a tonne of new year's resolutions, 94% of which will never happen. Myself, I've never failed to achieve a new year's resolution, although that has mostly to do with me never having had one...
So I thought I would make 2022 different! But rather than vague resolutions such as "reading more", "getting in shape", or whatever is the flavor of the month, I think it makes more sense to set some measurable goals. So I did!

I believe there's value in setting well-defined targets and then sharing it with someone who can hold me accountable or motivate myself to show that I can do what I've promised. So I made the tweet above and shared it with quite a few people already. If you're not following me on Twitter already, then I would appreciate it if you did, as any "social proof" from additional followers that we can give to Hiver users help grow our platform :).
So while there were plenty of things I do want to improve, or could aim to reach, I figured that #health and #wealth would be the two topics most fun, concrete and interesting to my followers.
Increase net worth by $120k.
Financial goals for the year are always fun! Last year, I wanted to increase my net worth by 1 million NOK (about $110k). In the end, I ended up doubling the gains to about $250k. Not bad considering that there are many who will struggle to save $10k in a year. So on one hand, it would make sense to increase the target more this year. But on the other hand, last year seemed unique in the unlikely gains made in stocks and crypto where everything went to the moon. So I think being able to at least repeat it again this year would already be a solid target.
That said, I would not be surprised at all if Hive alone contributes $120k this year through gains in value + different forms of rewards. I also think my KOIN holdings could see its value increase by $120k quite easily. But I don’t like to rely too much on what I can’t control. So instead I want to base the goal primarily around what I can make an effort to produce. I don’t want to call it a good year if I were to si ton my ass all day and do nothing and simply get carried by appreciating assets. So instead I’m looking at what I can work to achieve through different means, whether it is renting out a new studio, writing more and better Hive articles, or doing other concrete hustles.
Last year, I already did a lot to set myself up for success. I worked an insane (and perhaps unhealthy) amount to help justify a significant raise in my salary. I got into real estate and bought an apartment with decent renting opportunities for a separate studio, and I've grown my dividend-yielding stock portfolio. So while I do hope and think that my crypto holdings can Moon this year, I'll primarily focus on improving the value of the "core" or "safe" holdings, and let the crypto live its own life.
After all, it had a pretty wild ride in 2021:

Do a 120 Kg Clean & Jerk
My second goal for 2022 is to perform a 120 kg Clean and Jerk! (Thats 265 lbs for you imperial plebs) It’s been almost 2 years since I did the fun little challenge by Appics and Actifit to try and each a given fitness goal in 6 weeks. Back then, I wanted to see how How much weight can I lift over-head after 6 weeks. Unfortunately, the pandemic hit before the challenge was completed, and I wasn’t able to work out the last 2 weeks, nor given access to a barbell to perform the final lift. I’ve done som eon and off practice of the C&J movement though, and also improved my other lifts slightly (I now work out with 150 kilos on the deadlift compared to 140 back then). So I thought that it would be cool to be able to lift 120 kg above my head in a clean and jerk!
120 kg, is enough that it looks quite impressive. It’s basically 2x 20g + 1x 10kg plates on each side of a barbell, which looks pretty dope above one’s head. It will be quite challenging, but I'm really up for it, and most important: It should be a lot of fun!
Other goals:
I said in the intro that I dislike vague and general resolutions. So I won't call these resolutions, but just things that I hope to do more of:
- Run more:
I’m not a big fan of running or cardio, despite having parents who competed on 3000 meters and whose goal in life it seemed to be to make me a good runner. However, good cardiovascular health, and tricking your body into thinking it has to struggle to survive through outrunning lions, is shown to drastically reduce biological age and thus promote longevity. So managing to simply get out of breath once or twice per week should be a decent goal.
- Post more on Hive
Writing can be a very positive habit. The mere act of sitting down and gettng your thoughts out of your head, as well as considering how best to articulate your thoughts, is both healthy and productive. So without a specific goal for posts in mind, I want the total post count for 2022 to be greater than it was in 2021.
- Take more proper breaks
As written in my post The importance of taking proper breaks, I've truly come to appreciate the importance of disconnecting from time to time. So I will make sure to do more of that in 2022, and take time off seriously as an investment in future productivity and well-being.
So that's it! I look forward to sharing more about the progress throughout the year, and am curious to see where I will end up!
Don't forget to join the #Januarystreak challenge and see if you can make a post every day this month!
