Time for a break from weighty topics. Today has been a busy day. I agreed to help a family member transport some stuff, including taking responsibility for driving their rented moving van because I have experience driving the library Sprinter van in the past. I rode along to the rental place, drove the van to where it would be loaded, helped fill it, drove it to where stuff was going to be stored, helped empty it, and then drove it back to the rental place. Then I was given a ride home. Uffda!

After that, I had a late-season bonfire with some friends who came over to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. While getting the fire built, I noticed this valiant little wild strawberry trying to blossom even though frosts loom and winter is coming. It has been a strange year.

The bonfire was fun. A lot of old scraps from firewood processing and brush cleanup were turned into ambiance for chit-chat and reminiscences.
Oh, and some bad puns. Can't forget those. I don't care how much people might want to!
It was good to relax. The fire kept the cold night at bay, and even a brief sprinkle of rain couldn't ruin the evening.
This next week includes mundane responsibilities like a checkup at the doctor, a last-minute shopping spree in hopes of finding the rest of my new D.I.Y. Halloween costume plan, assembly of a slightly morbid and slightly funny birthday present, and the usual librarian chaos. I also hope to continue some of the post series I have been writing intermittently. Stay tuned!
