Thought I might share this one with you guys.
Every time when the client finishes their therapy is an emotional moment. You recap the path that you have been through together, things they have learned, what changes they have made. They revisit their old dreams, say good bye to them sometimes, experience separation from family script, and many other things.
Some of my clients leave before the contract is over. Life happens, situation changes, new priorities appear. And each time you accept whatever choice they make. Yes, I do confront my clients, when it's needed, but for the most part my job is to be there for them, as a support, a trusted person, someone they can be anything anyone with. I'm only a tool they can use to build the life that they want. This is a place where my ego stays far far away from my office (I'd rather boost that one in a gym:).
Today I finished my work with one of my oldest clients. In a way I feel a bit of pride for this person, knowing where they started and where are they now. This is the moment when I can give myself a pat on the back and remind myself- this is the reason you chose your profession- the results that your clients have.
Do I miss my clients? No, it is important to let them go into their own life. Do some of them come back when they need help? yes, and you have to start over, knowing but keeping away the previous experience. This is how you make changes to their script and path of life. And I'm grateful for having this experience in my life.
On that note, I better get back to work :)
Have a good day guys.
