I recently watched the keynote by AWS' CEO Andy Jassy. My goodness! Amazon owns retail. AWS owns cloud infrastructure. This is impressive, but also really scary. The way that AWS has been able to scale to meet the needs of some of the largest businesses on the planet is commendable, but also quite concerning. The level of centralization here is quite alarming. Not in the sense that Amazon itself only has a consolidated number of locations, that's of no concern at all. Amazon provides numerous regions, availability zones, and data centers within which to host services. When I say centralization I'm speaking in the virtual sense.
More and more it is also becoming apparent that a number of companies in the blockchain space actually host their nodes on AWS.
Makes you think...
