Since I and many of the members of the Steeminati play poker all the time....
In fact a real story, the reason I'm on SteemIt is because of my buddy @richatvns, he met another friend of mine at a regional in the Poker League we all played in. Invited him to his house for a home game and I tagged along.
Had a bunch of laughs around the table in a low stakes tourney with rebuys. From there we became good friends. Not just playing poker but in life.
So I can definatly say that comradarie of poker can enrich ones Life! And I never would have tried this community out with out Poker.
But poker is not about just playing a game there is a culture behind it. And every place you play at has a different atmosphere and people give it a different vibe. After all anytime you bring a group of 6 to 10 human beings together and have them sit together doing something together for a few hours on a semi-regular basis about a shared event terminology is going to build ups and personalities shine through.
Poker has it's own terms and we could go over them here, but that's not what I 'm talking about:
I'm talking about the Lingo that rises out of the culture, the environment, personalities and history of the players in the games experiences. That's where alot of fun arises.
Poker is rife with large well known sayings from common knowledge like pair of Aces being called Pocket Rockets, or American Airline, to 10-2 as the Brunson. But there are also Terms like the guys a fish (flops around doesn't know what he's doing), Donkey (dumb player who doesn't get out of his own way), ora to a shark (dangerous and can take a big bite out of your stack).
And there are alot of them....
Even the cards have sayings "Man with the Axe" King of Hearts. Black Myria or the Bitch - Queen of spades.
A mechanic someone who cheats by manipulating the Deck and Dealing. The Pot - an area in the center of the table where the bet is that origianlly came from when they used to put pots in the middle of the table to hold the bets. Splashing the pot - throwing chips in like water which goes all over the place.
Even the names of the different variations of the games have different names Anaconda, Shifting Sands, Hold'em, Draw, Stud, Baseball, Follow the Queen, Kings Cross, Indian Poker, Omaha, CHicago, Black Myria, and Guts there literally are thousands of variations and names.
Then there are terms about plays, straddle, spit, nuts, string, trap, and smooth call to name a few....
And we can't forget the nicknames we give to other players like Devilfish, Kid Poker, and Texas Dolly.
Wikipedia has a great list of the standard terminology (check it out here:,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_poker_terms
But fun lingo it really lacks completely in that list:
So here are few of the standard and non-standard lingo used at the different games I've played at, you may or may not have heard of, and I'd like you to chime in with some of your own.
Let's see if we can make a big list.
To start with:
Aces and 8s that is the dead man's hands, named after the hand wild Bill Hickcock had when he was shot in the back.
A Marriage,

a person who constantly amasses chips from one player and losses them other players also called a redistributor. Usually happens from them playing long odds and unaware that they really shouldn't be in the hands. @mustang88 was first labeled that by @richatvns at his home game and it has spread like wildfire through the league since.
Here are some more local terms but I'm not going to tell what they mean, I want some of the fellow Steeminati to chime in and explain them in the comments below!!!
Here they are The Heritage, The Rudy's, Silent Assassin, flitter bug, double infinity, buzzer beating, and two stacks ofJoe.
