Wrestling Organization Online Territory System
You may find yourself asking, "What do territories and land have to do with wrestling?" Well, wrestling has a long history of being territorial. Before cable television, the interstate system, and easy international travel, independent wrestling promotions ran in a small area and fierce competition. There were many instances of promoters or wrestlers "going into business for themselves" and screwing over rival wrestlers and promotions. This continued until the National Wrestling Alliance was formed. Created in 1948 as a governing body for the most prominent independent wrestling promotions. This governing body made a territory system that sanctioned various championships, recognized one world champion, participated in talent exchanges, and protected member promotions' territorial integrity.
With the NWA and the newfound territory system, professional wrestling was prospering. Being able to trade talent, promotions could constantly cycle new wrestlers in and out to continue building the territory's main star. Ticket sales were booming, and wrestling had found a new peak.
Before the 60s, the NWA acted as the sole governing body for most professional wrestling, and it remained an influential body in wrestling until the mid-80s. This continued until the World Wrestling Federation's (WWF, now WWE) national expansion, resulting in most of the original member promotions going out of business. The icing on the cake was the infamous Black Saturday of professional wrestling.
Black Saturday occurred on July 14, 1984, and was the day when Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation (WWF) took over the time slot on Superstation WTBS that had been home to Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW) and its flagship weekly program, World Championship Wrestling, for 12 years. McMahon's purchase led to a longstanding rivalry between himself and WTBS owner Ted Turner, who later bought GCW's successor Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) and formed his own company under the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) name. Then in 1993, the territory system disbanded when WCW left the NWA for the second and final time.
Since the fall of the territory system and the purchase of WCW by the then WWF in 2001, wrestling has been controlled and monopolized by one company, and many would argue one individual, Vince McMahon. Wrestling Organization Online will recreate the prosperity of the territory system on the Hive blockchain, and in turn, that prosperity will flow down to the wrestling industry and players alike.
Importance of Territories and Land to WOO?
Simply put, a player needs two things to run shows in-game. They need wrestlers and territories for the wrestlers to perform. Another task that land will accomplish is dispersing rewards. Every territory will have an amount of $WOO to be distributed to every location for players to win. Once a location "dries up," your organization will have to travel to a new location or maybe a new territory to continue earning $WOO. There will be a variable, depending on the distance, travel fee that will be charged to organizations, and 100% of that fee will go into reward pool reserves. This will encourage organizations to travel to continue to increase their earnings. This also prevents players or bots from grinding a single location to drain the reward pool.
Can players buy Land and Territories?
Yes, players will be able to buy single locations or entire territories as NFTs on the Hive Blockchain. That means players can trade/sell their land or territories to other players at any time. The exact date of the NFT Territory hasn't been announced, but we are planning for a 2023 presale.
What benefits does owning land give players?
Owning land in the WOO Metaverse will benefit players in numerous ways. A landowner will be able to travel to or from the land they own without paying a traveling fee. This is hugely beneficial for players to maximize their earnings without worrying about the variable traveling fee. Landowners will also get "a percentage of the gate" meaning, landowners will get a small percentage of all earnings for shows run in a location they own. Landowners can also upgrade their land in various ways, such as building arenas/stadiums, training facilities, radio/television stations, investment banks, and much more. By upgrading a location/territory, the landowner will increase the earnings available to the location, thus making it highly sought after. Players can also "rent" a location to organizations, and the organization can gain the benefits as if it were owned by the player. Finally, land can be delegated to Promotions by organizations in the Promotion. This will allow players to travel to and from guild land at a discounted travel cost.
Will there be any WOO-owned land for new players?
Yes, a portion of land will be set aside for Wrestling Organization Online use, and it will be noob-friendly land. Every player will start in the Wrestling Organization Online territory. When they feel comfortable with the game and mechanics, players can travel to other territories and compete against other players for $WOO!
