Chapter ten of Philip Baker’s Secrets of Super Achievers is titled; “Flying with the Dusk”. In this chapter, the author unveiled to us that the greatness of a successful man radiates outward into the lives of people around him. He mentioned that super achievers see people from the perspective of their potentials and not their actual behavior. A Super achiever does not need to see himself as a winner and others as losers. He encourages people around him to grow bigger just as he does. He causes his friends, employees and co-workers to be successful as well.
Philip Baker pointed out that synergy is crucial in the lives of super achievers. The easiest way to achieve more he says is to work through people and build teams. He says to be a super achiever, one ought to evaluate his or her weaknesses, and then call on others who have great abilities in the areas which he is lacking behind. This has a way of getting him reinforced by the capabilities of others, thus, he can drag the strength of others. Baker believes men ought to learn from dusk. Dusk fly in a V formation in order to take advantage of the partial wind vacuum created in the wake of each dusk.
For Baker, tenacity, hard work, motivation, persistence, goal setting as well as discipline are major prerequisite for success. Then if we can embrace these core values, then we will become unstoppable. But in order for us to achieve bigger, we must carry people along, helping those around us to fulfill their dreams. He also pointed out that in the journey of becoming super achievers, we learn the value of trust and love. It is only when we love that the understand what it truly means to be human.
All in all, no man is an island, everyman is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. We cannot survive as simple autonomous unit, that’s the reason of families, friends and even communities.
