Hello my boxing friends
Before fight few questions popped in my head about both fighters. Can Canelo take GGG's punch, Can GGG take Canelo's? How would GGG react to bodyshots, What would Canelo reaction be and adjustment be to GGG's jab.
Well, come to find out that both men have a monster chin. Canelo can roll with shots, GGG didn't roll with anything much, but took shots alright. GGG took a monster shot that KO'ed Amir Khan, I actually thought he would atleast be rocked hard from that shot. GGG however, did not react too well to bodyshots. He was stopping on his tracks. I was surprised Canelo didn't throw more body shots.
Canelo didn't do much to take away GGG's jab at all, apart from land his own hard shots to compensate for the judges scoring (or atleast try to). GGG's jab was hard for Canelo to get away from and it is a really really elite jab.
Next question: How would both do in a rematch?
The way to answer this is to basically think what both could have done to perform better. For GGG it is not really much, apart from being bit more confident. But he must not be overconfident to where he is walking forward aggressively. Just like round 12, GGG got caught with 4 uppercuts because GGG was aggressive and Canelo was being an aggressive counterpuncher. GGG could have jabbed to the body, and straight right hands to the body too. Otherwise, what else do you think he should have done?
Canelo needs to work on his stamina. This was affected due to the fact that he bulked up a bit for 160 lbs weight division. Canelo has also moved more in this fight than we normally see him do. GGG was constantly on him and on top of this, Canelo has shown fatigue in his previous fights. After all it is hard to be bulky, strong, fast, nimble AND HAVE GOOD STAMINA.
Canelo can go to the body more, land bigger combinations to the face. GGG is a fighter who struggles when you put combinations on him, take a look at his fight vs Monroe Jr, Brook and Jacobs to see more of this.
