I'm half English, half Italian and was trying to expand my courier business in to Europe at the time of course I would vote remain right? Well that's what I thought, at first.
This was my first time voting, I had tried to get registered to vote for the preceding election.
For weeks as I drove up and down the country (and even to Scotland for the first time ever) all I could see was huge red 'Vote labour, vote leave' signs covering every inch of free space along the road side. 'Xenophobes!' I thought.
Then I heard two comments that made me think -
The old £350 million a week for the NHS - Even I realised that the money wouldn't necessarily go to the NHS (assuming it existed) but still this is a huge amount of money for a country in debt!
It's what's best for Britain - I hadn't been looking at this as what is best for Britain but what is best for the world and what is best for me, leaving is what is best for Britain (IMO) and Europe whilst a step in the right direction for my dream of global peace was not far enough, just bigger pieces.
The advert which ultimately made me decide to vote remain, only a day or so before the vote, was a map entitled 'countries joining the EU' with Iraq and Syria on the map (but not in the list) - there is an Independent article - https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/eu-referendum-vote-leave-accused-of-fanning-the-flames-of-division-after-publishing-controversial-a7067701.html
With everything that has come out after the vote I believe remain was still the right vote but.... the EU are playing schoolyard games, don't negotiate with children and if I'm honest I'd rather just get it over with, hard exit, we can deal with any fallout afterwards.
At the end of the day does it matter which corrupt government runs our country? Will the rich still be rich and the poor still poor? Will politicians keep resigning when they don't get their way?
But please, USA, keep your chlorinated chicken!
