V Kalyanam, 96, personal assistant of Mahatma Gandhi, has something to say about present day India. He's not happy with the current state of governance.
The British were much better, he said. At 96, and after all the struggles for Independence during his days with Gandhi, it must have been heartbreaking for him to find himself in a situation where he's compelled to say what he said.
During his times with Gandhi, Gandhi used to dictate letters to him and he would write them down.
He exhibited letters which had been corrected by Gandhi. The corrections were done with a pencil.
Gandhi himself commended the British rule for administrative excellence many times, according to Kalyanam. Had the government been established under Subhas Chandra Bose's leadership after independence, things would have been much better, he opined.
