INTRODUCTION: Pollution can be defined as the release of harmful or polluting substances into the environment, negatively impacting its quality and the health of living things. These substances, known as pollutants, can be introduced through various means, including human activities and natural processes. Pollution can affect air, water, and land, causing widespread damage to ecosystems and posing risks to human health.
Pollution occurs when harmful substances or energy are introduced into the environment at levels that cause dangerous effects. There are two ways in which harmful substances can be introduced into an environment. It can be natural, example, decomposing organic matter or the ashes from a volcanic eruption. It can also be introduced into the environment through human beings example, vehicle emissions, waste from industries etc. Pollution can be in different forms of solid waste, liquids, gases, or even energy like noise and light.

There are various types pollution
There are namely
1.Air pollution
2.Water pollution
- Land pollution
- Noise pollution
- Light pollution
Air pollution:
This type of pollution is caused by the release of harmful gases and particles into the atmosphere, often from vehicles, factories, and power plants. Example, fumes from vehicles, industrial power plants, burning of bushes etc
Water Pollution:
It occurs when harmful substances contaminate bodies of water, including rivers, lakes, and oceans. This can result from underground leakage of crude oil, example of such places, Delta state, human waste, and agricultural runoff.
Land Pollution:
Involves the contamination of the Earth's surface, often due to improper waste disposal, industrial activity, and agricultural practices.
Noise Pollution:
This is caused by excessive and unwanted noise levels, such as traffic noise, construction sounds, or loud machinery. such as generators, sound systems etc.
Light Pollution:
Caused by excessive or misdirected artificial light, which can disrupt ecosystems and affect wildlife, especially animals who like the dark.
Consequences of Pollution:
Pollution has far-reaching effects for both the environment and human health. Burning of bushes and fumes from machinaries burns off the ozone layer that protect us from direct sunlight. It can also harm humans healthwise and affects wildlife.
Pollution contaminates drinking water sources and food supplies which if taken can develop health problems like diarrhea, stomach ache etc. It
increases the risk of respiratory illnesses, heart disease, and other health problems due to the inhale of smoke, contaminated air, and noise which can make one have issues with their ear or cause migraines.pollution can also cause climate change and other environmental problems.

How we can eradicate pollution:
Eradication of pollution is everyone's responsibility not for a particular organization or a certain group of people. If we can;
1.Properly dispose used industrial oil and household chemicals: Never pour chemicals on the ground or in drains, where they will eventually make their way into a stream or river. Motor oils and household chemicals can harm, and even kill, aquatic life. Yesterday, I was so pissed when I saw an adult dump trash into a drainage just because it was raining and he believed that the water will take it far from where he was staying.
This can cause gutter blockage, not only that, it becomes a threat to other peoples wellbeing.
2.Use fertilizers and pesticides sparingly : Excess fertilizer and pesticides can damage your plants. The excess use of this fertilizers can be harmful to human health because this plants might be grown for consumption. It can also cause air pollution, making it difficult for people living around to breathe fresh air.
3.Put trash in his place: Keep it out of drains, where it will clog up the drain or end up in the nearest stream or lake.
4.Organize neighborhood sanitations. Go on stream walks in your neighborhood, removing trash and debris as you go. It's a good way to meet your neighbors, and you can learn a lot about the natural environment.
4.Recycling of plastic, paper and bottles can also help in preventing pollution.
Finally, keeping both inside and outside of our houses and environment clean wil help protect us from infections and other airborne diseases.
