Huh?
Dafuq is a ‘bucket list’, B? You ask. Well, here’s @beanz’ fun fact : (because I didn’t know this and it’s awesome and dark and gnarly AF) :
Fun fact: The "bucket list" comes from an Irish figure of speech which is to "kick the bucket". To kick the bucket when used casually means to die but more literally it means to commit suicide when you kick the bucket you're standing on to land in the rope wrapped around your neck. So the "bucket list" is actually a list of things to do before we hang ourselves, or "kick the bucket" so to speak.
So Like
Bucket lists. I've never made one and only rarely have I ever in my life uttered the words, 'on my bucket list'. It is something I've been thinking about this past year, however, because this kind of a list goes hand in hand with deciding what you like in life.
For instance; do you love to travel? Then travel plans to the far corners of the earth - or the very bottom to visit underwater pyramids like my good friend @enginewitty - may be on your bucket list.
Perhaps you're a closeted daredevil! Then skydiving or snorkeling with sharks or teasing mean drunks is what you want to accomplish before you die!
For me, it's been difficult to see past tomorrow for a long time. Part of it is having children - and I have LOTS of children! - but a large part of my inability to see and plan my future is just me. I'm reactionary; I ebb and flow as life gets thrown at me and in many ways, I dig this philosophy. Except that what has happened is I'm now this age and feel like I've never really taken ownership of my path, my life.
Getting on Steemit was a step. My husband I decided that this year would be my year... a year to figure out what I really like in life OUTSIDE children and mothering. He suggested Steemit and I fought joining tooth and nail until I found the @SPL and the people in that community. I've met so many great friends playing poker, @enginewitty being one! My mother taught me to play poker before she died, and I've loved it ever since.
Focus
Ok, so we have established that I like poker. So what would I put on MY bucket list? Here goes, and I wonder if any of these will surprise anyone...
Experience Venice, Italy. I am a water baby through and through, and the idea of a city on the water is intoxicating to imagine.
Go big sport fishing... like big tuna, in Alaska... whatever. I love fishing.
Witness foaling season. Yeah, I like horses, so what.
Be of actual help in the world. I have ideas on this one I'm not going to expand on, but I've had this idea since I was a child and it would be awesome.
Study the Orca pods in the Seattle area. Dudes. Orcas call to me. I am equally as terrified as I am fascinated by them.
Thus far
So there you have it. At lease, thus far. I'm still working on exactly what I want in this life, but I'll try to keep you posted. I'm sure you're just dying to know! (SWIDT? dying... bucket... oh nevermind.)
