This is my post for #freewrite Saturday prompt burning hosted by @mariannewest
Today my husband was trimming some of the trees and he noticed the wax myrtle trees are full of berries. When he came inside he googled how to make a candle with them. Wax myrtles are also called Bayberry trees.
We stripped the berries off the branch
Got enough of them to half fill a small pot
We used an old pot that I do not use. Half filled it with water and put the berries in it. You do not need to get out all of the stems and such.
.
The directions said let boil 45 minutes but my husband is not a patient man, we let it boil maybe 20 to 25 minutes.
The wax will float to the top
Spoon the wax off, I put it in a disposable loaf pan.
The directions say to let it harden. Then we put some water in a skillet and set the loaf pan in it to melt the wax.
I forget what theses candles are called, the small ones with the tin holders. My husband took the candle out of the little holder and cut the wick out of it, this is what we used to pour the wax in. I know we destroyed a candle to make a candle.
After pouring the wax in, the wick fell over so we put a toothpick across it to hold the wick until it hardened.
Now for the prompt. Look at it burning.
