Most people are not aware of the dangers posed by centralization. This is something that they rarely have to think about in their lives. This is especially true in the West where things tend to operate smoothly, overall. No matter what the crisis, the powers seem to step in and settle things so the masses are appeased.
While there is mass eradication of rights in the West, the move towards full blown control is slow enough to keep people relatively comfortable. Since few take the time to understand what is happening, the system keeps moving ahead without much of a peep from the average person.
Another factor in all this is the "grass is greener" type of mindset. Many have issues with what is taking place but they are directed to countries like China or Russia where things are (at least according to the MSM) a lot worse. Of course, on some levels there is truth to this
One such example is the Social Credit score in China. This is the type of system those who believe in technological dystopia fear. China is using technology to further control the lives of each and every citizen. Being centralized, all the data compiled is processed to create a score. Much like one's financial credit score, this determines the "worthiness" of the individual. The country already saw people stopped for getting jobs, traveling, and having Internet access because their score does not meet the standard.
Here is a warning for everyone: Do not laugh at China; this is coming to a country near you.
The powers that are look at this as a valuable tool. It is a great way to silence any dissent. Those who speak out will be negatively voted to the point that major ramifications take place. We already see it with the launch of all kinds of charges based upon what people say. The only thing missing is a score related to it and, boom, the Chinese system is replicated.
What we are looking at is nothing more than a behavioral control system. The governments want to make the masses obey. A system such as this puts the power in their centralized hands. It is really that simple.
We are seeing a lot more than a right versus left debate. Those who engage in that battle are aiding in the process. While one is looking at the other side and pointing the finger, those who truly are in control are doing what they want behind the scenes.
What we see taking place with blockchain by the mega-corporations is a big part of this. Blockchain is a defense against what I am describing. Hence, the elite powers are trying to take control over the technology. Permissioned "blockchains" are their answer which is laughable since it goes against the basic benefits of the technology. At the same time, we see announcements like central bank and Facebook cryptocurrencies.
Anything to keep the masses unaware and asleep.
This is a major battle and everyone is going to realize how important it is. The only question is will many wake up only after it is too late? Personally, I feel this is a done deal in the sense that the centralized establishment does not stand a chance AS LONG AS those who are working on the technology keep advancing. True blockchains, open and decentralized, need to keep being pushed forward. We need to see innovation explode to attract the masses. Even unaware, they can be saved.
The biggest factor with blockchain is voices cannot be censored. Anyone with an Internet connection can post to a blockchain such as Steem and the information will always be there. Sure a post can be downvoted, tarred & feathered, and even banned by the interface. It cannot, however, be removed from the blockchain.
We are going to see many technologies emerging that are a lot more powerful than we saw before. These will be very dangerous for humanity if the centralized powers are allowed to control them and use them against the general population. This is where blockchain and cryptocurrency enter the picture. It is the defense against this state of dystopia where the technology becomes "evil".
What we are doing on here today is very important. Based upon what China did, it is vital to the future of humanity's freedom.
