We live in an entitlement world. The mentality of people keeps getting more about themselves. I am not sure we can totally blame individuals since it is the conditioning of our society. "Enough is never enough" and "You deserve more" are mantra we hear thrown out. Regardless of what one has, more can always be justified.
Since Steem is a microcosm of society, we see a similar attitude on here. How often do we see people complaining about the number of upvotes they get? They look at what others are making and feel entitled to the same thing. Never mind the fact that the other person put a lot of time, effort, and money in, the newer person feels entitled.
When the rewards are not forthcoming, attack the system and say how it is a scam.
We all know people who are getting decent payouts on Steem are just lucky. Forget the fact that there are many on here who put in a couple years, posting 1-3 times a day, that is not important. We can also ignore that there are many who put tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars into STEEM. That has nothing to do with it.
The fact is too many people want to be the victim. The biggest cancer we have in society today is the victimized mindset. While there are many in the world who are in truly horrific conditions, most that we encounter are not in such circumstances. The truth is that there are a lot of people who have things a whole lot worse.
"I complained about my shoes until I met a man with no feet."
One of the keys is to be grateful. On Steem, this means appreciating whatever one receives. Keeping this mindset allows one to prevail and keep active. Most who remain active on this blockchain see their rewards growing over time. Those, however, who feel entitled to instant riches end up leaving in frustration. They feel everyone should cater to them.
I like to ask this question: how much is your post worth on Facebook? Does Microsoft give you money for writing an article on LinkedIn? For the majority, we know the YouTube payouts amount to nothing.
Yet they have the inclination to complain about Steem and how unfair it is.
Actually, when you think about it, Steem is the most fair system there is. Want to become a Whale instantly? That option is available to you. Just drop about $250K into STEEM and you are a Whale. Double that amount and you will put in you in elite class with over 1M SP. Don't have $250K or $500K? Sorry about your luck.
The truth is neither do I. Ever since I started on Steem, I was grateful for what I got. This gave me the motivation to keep going. I enhanced my account by buying STEEM and powering up. My first purchase price was at $1.30 and I bought $500 worth. That was not even enough to make Minnow but it was all I could afford.
And I was grateful to be able to purchase that.
Over the past 18 months, I added to my holdings as my finances allowed. Certainly, I was most grateful for the drop in price to add to my account. This is a blessing as compared to trying to power up when STEEM was $4 or $5. There is usually a silver lining.
It is easy to focus upon what is wrong. Hell, most posts will tell you. What is far more difficult is concentrating on what is right. This is what those who take advantage of opportunities do. There is always a reason not to do something and the masses are willing to point it out. The key is to find the reason to do it in spite of all the noise from others.
Those who are dedicated to this ecosystem, in my view, are the ones who are most grateful for it. They see the opportunity before them. This enables them to put their head down and start creating. This is equally true of content creators and developers. The ones who see the opportunity are grateful for it.
Therefore, it might be a good idea to adopt a new attitude. Do you think those who are grateful for the opportunity are going to be drawn to those who are negative and complaining how the bigger accounts are not taking care of them? Does it make sense to believe larger accounts wants to deal with someone who feels entitled?
I have a secret: they are the ones with the Steem Power. Ironic, that the exact accounts one wants to attract can be turned off by one's attitude.
Words do have impact.
It a simple choice that each of us can make in our lives. Those who are grateful for what they have tend to be happier and more successful. On the other hand, those who whine about everything from the weather on down are apt to be miserable.
