Bear in mind, this is not financial advice, simply my thoughts on the valuation and potential of the project.
@steemhunt is now a publicly traded token. While not on the major exchanges, it is available on Daybit. Taking a look at the price, I see it is at 1.5 cents. This is down from the IEO price of 2 cents.
With a total of 500M tokens available, this puts the total market cap at $7.5M, This is a tidy sum for a Steem-based project that is a little over a year old.
It is, also, vastly, undervalued in my opinion.
There are a number of reasons for this.
It Is A Currency
This is something that is often overlooked. We use the market cap which is term that really applies to equities. A token is not stock but, rather, a currency. HUNT can be used anywhere Bitcoin can be since it is paired with that coin. People are able to purchase goods and services with it. While it is not direct, it is still possible.
What is the market cap of the USD? The Euro? JPY?
It is obvious we do not apply that term to currencies. Yet, for comparison sake, we use it in cryptocurrency.
The value in the fiat currencies comes in their use. The fact that they are accepted in the applicable counties makes them useful. I will grant it is forced upon the populous which makes crypto a lot different. People are free to opt for which one they use. This also has value.
Billions Of Reviews Already Are Done For Free
The next stage of the Steemhunt project is Reviewhunt. According to their road map, it is set for a Beta release in Q2 of this year. In my mind, this could be a game changer in the technology world.
One only needs to go on Amazon and click around to see how many people are reviewing products for free. Yes, I am aware that a percentage of those are bots and fake posting. Nevertheless, there are a ton of people leaving reviews all over the Internet for everything you can think of. This was one of the major breakthroughs of Web 2.0: the ability for users to give feedback.
Steemhunt is taking the same ability and turning it into Web 3.0. Now the users will be paid for their reviews. Companies that are serious about getting knowledgeable feedback are going to have to purchase it. I can see this being a trend that spreads all across the web.
If you want a review, pay me. "Get paid to review."
Working Product
The platform is more than a year old. This gave the team ample time to work out some of the kinks while adding upgrades to the system. So far, they developed a nice core of people who are actively hunting out interesting technological products from across the Internet. They refined their payout model in an effort to pay the most active users.
Many projects are ideas. We see this across the world of cryptocurrency. There are thousands of projects that are wonderful in theory but might lack the ability to come to fruition. Steemhunt already took care of that. A working product usurps even the best idea simply because an idea is nothing until it is brought into use.
Funding Platform
This might be the aspect of the project that holds the greatest potential.
By the end of the year, the plan is to have Ideahunt up and running. This will, effectively, turn every HUNT holder into a potential venture capitalist. The HUNT token is going to be used to fund start ups in an effort to bring their ideas to market.
This holds great promise because we are entering another technological boom. For those who follow cycles, technology tends to operate on decade long swings. The 1980s and 1990s were major technological eras for innovation. The last two decades saw a lull with the smart phone being the major breakthrough (and that was a converging of three 1980s/1990s technologies). We should see the cycle reverse.
You can expect another 3B people joining the online world over the next decade. They are going to come to the table with an assortment of ideas which can be revolutionary. What they are going to need is funding and Steemhunt will have a platform which to do that. Good ideas that hold promise could be funded by Hunters. This is key. How many ideas die simply because one lacks the funding to bring it to fruition?
It is easy to look at projects as the same. With some many being developed each week in the cryptocurrency world, it is impossible to keep up. After a while, they all look alike, especially to outsiders.
Steemhunt is different. For the reasons mentioned above, I think there is enormous potential. This team is accessing a part of the web that is so commonplace that people are not aware of it. Reviews are something people do without giving much thought. Steemhunt is going to pay people for that. That is the new twist.
In my mind, this is one of the applications that is at the forefront of Web 3.0.
