Here's this week's entry for #butterflyday by @whatisnew a couple weeks ago I had found a baby mantis but now that it snowed last week I couldn't find them in their usual spot anymore, they probably got frozen to death.
Fortunately my sister lives in Arizona and caught this guy looking in her window.
Also I dug through the archives to find this mantis I caught a couple years ago acting like a twig. He sat there and posed while I setup my camera.
Here's a mantis from last year sitting on my car wanting to hitch a ride lol. I actually tried to catch this one then it flew onto the side of a building just out of reach looking at me trying to reach up to grab him. They seem pretty smart.
Here's another photo I found where I didn't realize I caught this fly just barely taking off. From the thumbnail it looked like it was just sitting on the edge of the leaf but it is actually taking off.
Here's another one from my archives, a candy striper leaf hopper. These are tiny little colorful specs among the early summer leaves. You really have to sneak up on them otherwise they leap off into oblivion somewhere never to be found again.
Here's a close-up of its bold colors.
Now that it looks like this over here I'll be digging through my old insect photos for #butterflyday and #insectpub
Now for a bonus blue jay about to eat a green caterpillar. This was another shot I didn't realize had something interesting going on in it until I opened it up in photoshop :-).
