I spent half of today clearing my two bedrooms out for a carpet refit tomorrow.
I remember thinking 'tatty carpets' when I first viewed this place nearly two years ago - the carpets were clean enough, but it was the edges, all frayed and just a bit tatty looking.
I'd assumed they were a DIY fit, which would also fit in with the low quality of paint-finish all over the house.... poorly edged ceilings and blobs of dried paint in places, so my long term plan had always been to get new carpets.
So I spent the last year not worrying about the condition of said carpets - I painted upstairs with slack attention to covers on the floor and there was one Tea spillage incident I didn't bother dealing with particularly urgently, which have kind of made new carpets a necessity now I want to rent the place.
I got a reasonable deal of £650 for two rooms and the stairs, on the basis that I'd remove the old carpets myself, which didn't take that long, even with having to clear all my upstairs belongings into the fitted cupboards and dismantle a few things to take them downstairs.
Lifting the carpet was easier than I thought, but having done so I was quite impressed with much of the fit-job after all - the felt underneath is in great condition and the rooms have been nicely edged with those spikey carpet fixer things, and the stairs were well-prepped too.
Now I'm wondering if it wasn't such a bad fit after all, just made difficult by the age of my house and the wonky walls - the back of it's about 15 centimetres shorter than the front apparently, hardly square!
I hope they actually look neater than the originals, it would be a bit of a waste of money if they still look a bit frayed!
On the upside
Packing about two thirds of my stuff has put me into moving mode - if I really am going to move abroad in September/ October (although that hardly seems real!) there's not a lot of point taking everything back upstairs, I may as well just start to sell or store everything that I've packed, or chuck out the stuff that can't be repurposed - like my old working desk - it's one of those that gets weaker every time you disassemble/ reassemble it!
Maybe I need to get used to my new office - I kind of like it, but I think that's just the novelty...
Can you guess the TNG episode?!?
