Yesterday, Sunday, I had a totally atypical day for me. I usually walk an hour from Monday to Saturday very early in the morning before sunrise. However, yesterday I felt the need to go out and get some fresh air. I don't know if it's my idea but these days of forced confinement have made every day seem like.
Ayer domingo tuve un día totalmente atípico para mi. Normalmente suelo caminar una hora de lunes a sábado muy temprano en la mañana antes de la salida del sol. Sin embargo, ayer sentí la necesidad de salir y tomar aire fresco. No se si es idea mía pero estos días de encierro obligado han hecho que todos los días se me parezcan.
Today I couldn't walk as early as usual, it's a habit I've had for a long time and now it's increased by the social distancing. Besides, yesterday morning it was raining. In short, two new events were added to my daily routine.
Hoy no pude caminar tan temprano como de costumbre, es un hábito que tengo desde hace mucho tiempo y ahora se acrecentado por lo del distanciamiento social. Además ayer amaneció lloviendo. En síntesis se sumaron dos nuevos eventos a lo que es mi rutina diaria.
Still, I decided to go out after breakfast and let it stop raining. As I was in no hurry to return at a certain time, I walked around and I could appreciate many things that I had not seen before. The most immediate justification I can think of is that when I pass by there is not enough natural light and I cannot contemplate the details.
Aun así me animé a salir después de tomar el desayuno y que terminara de llover. Como no tenía prisa por regresar a determinada hora, caminé y pude apreciar muchas cosas que estando allí antes no las había contemplado. La justificación más inmediata que se me ocurre es que cuando paso por allí no hay suficiente luz natural y no puedo contemplar los detalles.
Basically what I want to tell you is that there is a marked difference between looking and observing; that is, between seeing and carefully examining the elements of the landscape.
En el fondo lo que quiero plantearles es que hay una diferencia notoria entre mirar y observar; es decir, entre ver y examinar con detenimiento los elementos del paisaje.
I want to extend this reflection to the scope of our lives and how routine prevents us from looking beyond the events that happen to us, to understand the why of their causes and how to take advantage of them in favor of the things we want to change or modify in our lives.
Esta reflexión la quiero extender hacia el ámbito de nuestras vidas y cómo la rutina nos impide observar más allá de los eventos que nos pasan, entender el por qué de sus causas y cómo sacar provecho en favor de las cosas que queremos cambiar o modificar en nuestras vidas.
So this morning with a few small changes in my way of doing things I was able to enjoy images that are a gift to our senses. As simple as delighting in observing the magnificent color combination of the flowers of the Cuji trees that are in full bloom. Its enormous pistils and the delight that it produces in some bumblebees.
Es así como esta mañana con unos pequeños cambios en mi forma de hacer las cosas pude disfrutar de imágenes que son un regalo para nuestro sentidos. Tan simple como deleitarme observando la magnífica combinación de colores de las flores de los árboles de Cují que están en plena floración. Sus pistilos enormes y el deleite que este produce en algunos abejorros.
I even realized that sometimes without an obvious effort, just by making small changes in ourselves, life puts rewards within our reach. I make this comment because I appreciated that on the route where I walk every day there is a tree planted on the public road with rich papayas waiting that in a few days we can remove it for the enjoyment of our palate.
Incluso me di cuenta que a veces sin un evidente esfuerzo, tan sólo con hacer pequeños cambios en nosotros mismos, la vida nos pone premios a nuestro alcance. Este comentario se los hago porque aprecié que por la ruta donde camino todos los días está un árbol plantado en la vía pública con ricas lechozas esperando que dentro de pocos días la podamos retirar para el disfrute de nuestro paladar.
Perhaps we should see things in another context. We can understand these fruits as the opportunities that are presented to us throughout our lives, which we sometimes do not observe and therefore cannot take. Now that I know they exist, I must be very careful that the other passers-by who pass by don't get ahead of me hahaha.
Quizás las cosas las debemos ver en otro contexto. Estas frutas las podemos entender como las oportunidades que se nos presentan a las personas a lo largo de la vida, las cuales en ocasiones no las observamos y por lo tanto no las podemos tomar. Ahora que se que existen, debo estar muy pendiente que los otros transeúntes que pasan por allí no se me vayan a adelantar jajaja.
To conclude I would like to quote this thought that is attributed to Henry Ford which I consider very pertinent to consider in all areas of our life:
