Let me introduce you our conservation program we actually finance by STEEM since last year.
Let’s join forces and save the remaining fragments of the Abongphen Highland Forest in Cameroon.
Our goal is to save and restore at least 1,000 ha of the forest in 3 years.
The misty mountain forest lies in the Kedjom-Keku area, whose name translates to the People of the Forest. It is a source of drinking water for millions of people and it is the natural habitat of the most threatened chimpanzee subspecies, the Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee, as well as hundreds of other endemic organisms of the Bamenda Highlands. Due to unsustainable development practices, the forest currently covers a mere 2% of its original area.
How we are going to save the forest?
We will use an investment concept to ensure socio-economic sustainability and forest protection. We will employ a local loan-invest approach, referred to as Njangi groups, to launch small businesses for local people with emphasis on the integration of organic farming and agroforestry practices and good management and social responsibility. Those groups will be further connected by an agro-cooperative called Forest Friendly Family. This approach will lift people from poverty, will allow them to be fully involved in those activities, will let them acquire new skills and competences on all small-scale company levels (farmers to managers) and will use sustainable and profitable methods of farming.

Zachraňme společně horský mlžný les v Kamerunu.
Našim cílem je zachránit a obnovit alespoň 1000 ha lesa v následujících třech letech.
Horský mlžný les se rozkládá v nadmořské výšce 2 000 metrů v oblasti Kedjom-Keku (v překl. Lidé z lesa) na jihozápadě Kamerunu v pohoří Bamenda Highlands. Les je jedním z nejdůležitějších zdrojů pitné vody pro miliony lidí žijících v podhůří a také přirozeným domovem nejohroženějšího poddruhu šimpanze Pan troglodytes ellioti a stovek endemických organismů, které najdeme pouze a právě v Bamenda Highlands. Díky rychle rostoucí lidské populaci a dlouhodobě neudržitelnému rozvoji zbývají lesa už jen 2% z původní rozlohy.
Jak chceme les zachránit?
Abychom dosáhli socio-ekonomické udržitelnosti ochrany původních lesů, využijeme investiční koncept, který bude napojen na tradiční kamerunský způsob úvěrových investic, kterým lokální farmáři říkají Njangi. Farmářské skupiny vytvoří malá zemědělská družstva s důrazem na ekologické zemědělství, agrolesnictví, řídící schopnosti i sociální odpovědnost. Tato farmářská družstva budou propojeny tzv. Forest Friendly Family Cooperative (v překl. družstvo “K lesu přátelská rodina”). Tento přístup zachrání lidi před chudobou, umožní jim se plně zapojit do dlouhodobě udržitelného rozvoje, získat nové schopnosti na všech podnikových úrovní (od farmáře po manažera) a zajistí udržitelnost a ziskovost hospodaření.
