In this lesson, I want to talk about the attitude or character of a disciple. A disciple supposed to look like his master. In character, behaviour, life style, way of talking and even dress sense. He wants in all entirety to reflect the master.
The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household! - Matthew 10:24-25 NIV.
You don't want to be different from your master. When this becomes your goal, you study your master closely. Somehow, the disciples achieved that in the garden of Gethsemane. There was no difference between Jesus Christ and His disciples when the Pharisees and the leaders of Israel came to arrest him, they coundn't recognize who is the Jesus. They needed a kiss of betrayal to identify him.
Then since Jesus is not physically with us today, we need to study him in the Bible. We need to check how he talks, his manners, his preferences, his habits, his hobbies. Where he likes to go, how he spends his time, how he fasts often, how he is compassionate. If we know these attributes of him, we can imitate him.
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. - 1 Corinthians 11:1 NIV.
This was Paul instructing the early Christians to follow his example as he follows Christ. As Christians we ought to live an exemplary life that reflect Christ. I will be talking more about exemplary lifestyle soon so stay tune.
