The assignment of preaching the gospel is for all believers (Mark 16:15). All believers must do the work of an evangelist (2Timothy 4:5). In fact, many of the apostles work as evangelists (Acts 8:4) but some are specially endowed with the ministry gift and are called to be evangelists. Jesus Christ, Paul, Timothy and the writers of the four synoptic gospels are also examples. Philips had the ministry gift of an evangelist.
