Christmas is near and it is a very dear celebration for all Christians, a party in which a character called Santa Claus appears, gifts are made between the people and it is celebrated with family or friends. Many Christians are left with the superficial moment, with the joy that the date brings with it, but few meditate on the true spiritual meaning of the birth of Jesus, the day of the birth of the savior of mankind. In a world dominated by sin, the social oppression, and the love for the riches, with these words an angel spoke about Lord Jesus to some little shepherds who were near the manger, where the divine child was with his mother: "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah" Luke 2:11.
Although originally it is a festivity of pagan origin, the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, Christianity and more particularly the Catholic Church has taken it as their own, as the day of the birth of Jesus, the savior messiah.
It is important to note that the Gospels, which are the texts that tell us about Jesus, do not tell us about the date of his birth, but allude to a census of the Emperor Augustus in the gospel of Luke with an imprecise date; but it is unlikely that a roman census was carried out in Judea in the middle of winter, when there are more propitious times such as spring.
The exact date of the birth of Jesus is still a matter of debate today, because there is also another question, for example, about the life of Alexander the Great, who was a historical figure close to the birth of the Christian religion, there are many proofs about his existence, but about Jesus there are only the testimonies of the gospels.
But all these issues are, after all, a reason for debate among historians, the spiritual meaning of Christmas and the birth of the Lord as a date where men renew their hope and faith in humanity and the world is what makes this date something so special for everyone.
