I don’t know why as of late you decided or whoever to make changes to how comments are displayed. They use to work just fine as far as the order went. Outside of someone upvoting a comment and that having an influence on how it was displayed. Which more times than not was fine as well.
The issue we arrive at:
- Sorting by age gives newest first. Sorting by age again still gives newest first… This is normally where it do the opposite. It would give you oldest first – chronological order.
- Sorting by trending gives newest first unless someone got an upvote that influences this.
- Sorting by votes gives highest votes first then trending/age whatever
You know what is missing? CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER. The first comment is first. The last comment is last. It’s that simple. There are many applications where this makes sense.
Example 1:
You’re playing a turn-based game on the blockchain in text. I know, I know I’m a nerd. Hey at least this platform has other uses then what tumbler is used for. With how the old comment ranking system order things worked out great. The GM (Grandmaster) just upvoted anything important and everything else fell into place. You could go through the order of operations of how other players turns went to arrive at the conclusion of available options for your turn. Scrolling all the way down and then reading to top of the page again is just strange with how mix up things get now.
Example 2:
You are running a contest. I know its great people are still willing to accept Steem/SBD for free. SHOCKING. Anyway, it has a simple first x amount that comment first with what is being asked-- great. Instead of just counting to X and ignoring all the other people who enter after X was reached. Now, Yyu now get to scroll all the way to the bottom first. Then count up. DO YOU LIVE UPSIDE DOWN?
Example 3:
You are reading the comment section where many have commented on the same comment. Don't panic most people don't bother reading it's going be ok. Before things where changed everything still had the correct flow even when people wanted to reply to the main comment to add something to the conversion that was drawn on conclusions of comments before it. All the new options just result in some strange having to go back and forth between comment strings.
I know, I know I’m strange I like to read from TOP TO BOTTOM. NOT BOTTOM TO TOP. I was unaware we had so many people commenting that any change was needed.
Now I understand, you see billion dollar companies removing chronological order. The backlash and anger was more than deserved towards those companies. If your are reading Susan's How To Kill YouTube handbook but it down.
The earth is not flat. We do not live upside down. These things to all be true. Make comment sections in a logical order again--chronological order option
