MAZE RUNNER: DEATH CURE
Full of exciting and moving moments, despite their failures.
After three years of waiting, finally came Maze Runner: The deadly cure, delivery in charge of closing the saga. Directed by Wes Ball, and based on the novel by James Dashner, the film tells us about the dangerous journey of Thomas and the inhabitants, which goes from rescuing his captive friends to his final mission to enter the Last City controlled by CRUEL, the organization that locked them in the labyrinth.
In this third and last part of the saga, the plot is extremely interesting as a conclusion to the story, but in the development it becomes the typical outcome for a film of this genre. However, unlike the previous two tapes: Run or Die and Fire Test, in which the slow and fast sequences were interspersed one after the other, in Maze runner: The deadly cure from the start is an accelerated pace. And next to the presented situations an atmosphere of tension is built, in which there are practically null opportunities to relax this tension generated before the fortunate lack of comic characters.
Despite this, some sequences get too long, especially nearing the end. However, they do not become boring, but they are implausible. The resolution to the conflicts seems arranged so that conveniently there is someone prepared with a tricky solution. This is the problem where the tape falls the most.
As for the main characters ..
Outside of Teresa and Thomas, who are in an emotional conflict, they do not have a great evolution comparing them with the previous films. This is not necessarily bad, because they have personality and established motivations that are also perfectly embodied by the actors. Regarding the secondary characters such as Aris, Harriet and Sonya, they completely forget them and suggest that if they had been used in the plot, it would have enriched the franchise more.
On the other hand are Dr. Ava Paige and her colleague A.D. Janson, the antagonists who could not be called villains. Their intentions are good, because they seek a cure for the flare, but their methods are not entirely acceptable. It is here where they clash with the protagonists and where the conflict between the sides is found.
There is also The right arm, an opposition organization that wants to overthrow C.R.U.E.L. Both groups are extremists, because they defend that their ideals are the right ones. This results in a moral conflict for the protagonists in which they must decide which of the sides to support. In the same way, that feeling is transmitted to the viewer. Are their methods valid to reach an end with greater impact? Really C.R.U.E.L. it's good?
In short Maze runner: The deadly cure is a good ending to the saga despite the failures. It shows a much better production and visual effects than those of its predecessors. Closes questions raised in the other films, but does not clarify some circumstances. Full of exciting and moving moments, it deserves to be part of the best in the genre of Young adult adaptations.
