Ant-Man and The Wasp
Hi everyone! I'm Thomas and today I'm going to talk about the movie "Ant-Man and The Wasp" by Peyton Reed. (Without Spoilers.)
First of all, we must know what the movie is about:

After what happened in 'Captain America: Civil War', Scott Lang must deal with the consequences of his actions as a superhero and as a father. As he tries to balance his family life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, Hope Van Dyne and Hank Pym turn to him with a new and very urgent mission. Scott must, once again, put on his suit and learn to fight alongside The Wasp as the team works to uncover secrets from his past.
Ant-Man and The Wasp is the last film that Marvel Studios has released, and the next one after the big Infinity War event. Obviously the film had a great expectation of everyone for the film that preceded his studio, and I must say that... I really liked it. And this is where I should give Marvel a round of applause for making such great movies, and this time... in a small way. And it is that it does not escape from the quality that Marvel has been bringing us for about two years now; that already for a point only rubs us that they are currently in charge in Hollywood, and that is that the first scene totally demonstrates the power that they have.
What I did like it.
One of the great things about Ant-Man's character is that his films look like a totally different universe; like an even smaller universe in the MCU. That, while its other members are fighting with things that would destroy the city or the world, or the universe, whatever, his films are developed on a more personal level. Their mission is simple: To try to save Hope's mother from the quantum realm, and all the "impediments" they encounter are really obstacles to their mission, not something like the "greater good" that any superhero movie would be. Of course, this works well in the movies, but Ant-Man and The Wasp has a slightly refreshing twist, and that's to be welcomed after all we've been through in Infinity War.
And it's great how this little world of Ant-Man's gets "bigger" so to speak, it brings more characters: good and bad. And the characters we knew before are even better. Now, with a motivation of history, as I said before: more personal and that works better than in its prequel, you get to be even more fond of the characters, improves this emotional bond we had with them before. Everything feels more important and bigger even though the mission is simpler. And the fact that it's more private now, they're running it for something more familiar, and that's what makes you fall in love with the characters. And all of this feels, as I said before, more important, because now they rely on the personal and sentimental support of the characters, which is wonderful.
Essentially, this film now that it's more emotional, we see better family ties. As is the case of Hope and Hank, who before more than family seemed like partners in work, but now we see how they are still partners, but now showing the love they have for each other. Also in the case of Scott and Cassie, who in this film, now spend more time on screen and we see their relationship and it is very touching to see how Scott really works as a father. Even the villain's motivation (Ghost) also goes a little bit on that side(which I'll talk more about later) and it really works and that's great for the movie.
And what defined the first film were their jokes and creativity. And in the film they only make them even better, it gets bigger, and even more fun in my perspective. Marvel's films have a complaint that he floods his films with jokes, but this come to Ant-Man in a great way. You really forgive if something stupid happens, or funny because this character does benefit from it, and I've never felt in a movie that all his jokes really fit together and work.
The film, apart from humour and charisma, now has a lot of confidence. It feels how the director knew that every decision he was making was the right one, of course, sometimes it wasn't, but uh, it's good to have confidence in the product. What do I mean by confidence? I mean in the sense of putting confidence in their heroes, villains and new characters and knowing that all of them could work somehow, and striving to make them not only look funny and ridiculous. And that's what makes Ant-Man unique; not perfect, but unique; it's a matter of playing with the perspective that each of us has and there's even more of that in this sequel than in the first film.
Now, I've seen a lot of people worry about Wasp taking the movie completely and really leaving Ant-Man in the background, which I was worried about too. But, really, even though it does feel like this is her movie, it doesn't reduce Ant-Man's character at all, even though they are now forced to share the limelight (I mean, she's in the title). Scott doesn't reduce himself at all, and they keep finding moments when they bring them both out. Hope, on the other hand, containing most of the action scenes (which were totally great) that, although of course Scott has great footage, but when it comes to fighting itself, you see how capable Hope is, and Scott is now a little more familiar and a little less like a superhero.
What I didn't like it.
Before I said that this film is not perfect and I have to start talking about little things that I didn't like about. Personally, I feel that there is too much in this film; many plots happening at the same time, but all of them are somehow linked to the same fact and by themselves do not stand out at all. Some of them are really good, like the main one, the search for Janet or the house arrest plot that was very funny. But because we have so many funny plots, others don't work, like Walton Goggins's character with his villain situation. Yes, many plots worked but since there were so many plots, you felt that you could get tangled up and affect the narrative.
And now, the main villain, Ghost, could not fail to talk about it, because it is very rare because it complies with everything that must happen with a villain to be good, but it does not do it in the best way and it becomes very forgettable. They quickly show us their origin, their reasons and things so that we can feel an emotional bond with them. I do not know if it is the fact that it is not a threat' per se, really despite the good time we had with it, I do not empathise at all.
And to conclude, I must say that Ant-Man and the Wasp is one more of the great movies brought to you by Marvel Studios and concludes with its best year of movies so far. The film is fun, charismatic and even a little better than the first one. She becomes more familiar and much more charismatic and takes the trouble to make us fall in love with all the characters now.
