I first learned of Gantz:0 through a Corridor Crew video, on YouTube, a few years ago. These guys review visual effects in movies and Gantz:0 was one of them, showing off an over-the-top weapon that shoots a wire, tethering enemies to the ground and teleporting them into another dimension. It's a neat idea and somewhat visually appealing scene to see.
From this scene i saw review, i thought i might watch Gantz:0; it's a japanese animated movie and japanese animation can be weird and insane and over the top mental, and great!
But, this movie fell a bit flat.
The action is just OK and there isn't much going on in the form of explanation of the events; something which japanese anime usually go into, in depth. I recall something like Death Note and all it's mental chess and i was hoping this movie would do the same. Yet, it disappointed in that department as there's about one minute of an attempt at event-exposure, or mental-chess that japanese anime is famed for.
Disappointing in that department, the visuals are just OK, as well, with just a couple of visual interesting enemies and shots.

If you really haven't gone into japanese animation, let me not recommend Gantz:0, and do recommend Death Note, instead, though.
Gantz:0 is about a group of people, each of which has died and where mysteriously brought back to life, and find themselves in the middle of a very "game", in which they have to kill enemy monsters that are invading Japan. The more monsters they kill, the more points they get - getting x points allows them to redeem a prize, in which one of is to be able to leave the game and resurrect back into their past life.
This premise is OK; i mean, if we were to simplify every premise of every movie, most of them also sound silly or dumb.
But this movie didn't deliver that much in terms of anything.
I was expecting much more exposure about the mysterious orb that exists, which provides them with the gear they use, the weapons they can buy; the orb's like a game menu, in which players of this "game" can also see high-scores and interact with. None of which is explained, neither are the monsters. anything, to that matter.
It's just an OK action movie, with a premise, and not much depth.
Rating: Again, watch Death Note is you haven't, instead. If you're still keen on watching Gantz:0, just know it's a weak movie and a bit uninteresting.

So, i just googled Gantz:0 because i wanted to learn a bit more about this weak movie.
It turns out, Gantz:0 is based of manga comics, and there is a wide range of media revolving Gantz:0.
So that's a plus, if you want to delve more into this world. And no surprise the movie's a bit weak; adaptations usually are, and especially when compressing a world brought from comics into a one and a half hour movie.
There's manga comics of Gantz:0, manga spin-offs (Gantz:E and Gant:G), a 26-episode anime series, two live action movies, a video-game; the whole shabang!
So, if animation is your thing, you might want to check Gantz:0 out. The anime series might be a better start, but there's plenty of formats to enjoy this world. Who knows, maybe the story/world/premise of Gantz:0 is deeper than this animated movie lead to believe!
