Well, one concert with the trial partner. Last night the concert went well enough, but I was not so convinced with the sound of the violin under my head, especially in the larger setting!
However, it could be due to the giant church that we had to play in... Which does always make one sound very very small! However, when I played the violin at home today, it sounded and felt quite good!
I did take the opportunity to string a heavier gauge string on the d string, that will hopefully bolster the strength of tone in that register. That was my biggest gripe with the instrument, that the violin had a bit of a weaker 3rd string than I would have preferred.
So with that don't, I did a little twiddling for my oldest daughter on this violin and the regular one that I use. And she preferred this one! So, that is a good sign... Although she couldn't exactly say why she liked it better!
So, I'm giving the violin another run in another concert tonight... Luckily this is a concert packed week, with 5 performances in 6 days. So I have the chance to try the instrument out in different acoustics and ensemble settings...
