Hello Steemit! I am Jerry Guthrie, a guitarist for most of my life. I get the biggest joy out of sharing my music for others. I don't stick to a particular genre as my musical philosophy is that music is life, no matter the genre, it is all an expression of human emotion whether it be love or anger, joy or sorrow, we all have these emotions, and music is it’s reflection .
I have several plans for my blog, one of which is giving "Behind the Song" posts. Most of my songs have a story behind it's creation and Steemit seems to be the perfect place to do so.
Behind the Song: Beside Me
The song is meant to project both feelings of sorrow and joy, My mother recently passed away and though I felt much sorrow at her passing, I knew that she was still with me in spirit or "Beside Me". The song has three guitar parts and each part represents an emotion. The first guitar, the finger picking rhythm, represents me walking through everyday life. The second guitar represents the sorrow I felt learning of my mothers passing. The third guitar represents the joy that I can still feel her beside me and knowing she is in a better place. The 3 parts all harmonize with each other. The song is meant to represent that as we walk through life, we may have much hardship and sorrow but life goes on, and though we deal with pain there is always joy yet to experience.
