Popular Classic
In the UK, these cars are sought after classics with endless modification and upgrade potential. There is even a company now making complete 'brand new' fast road/rally spec Mk2 escorts. (https://mst-cars.com/). This is not one of them. This is a unique Devon project I spotted parked outside the vintage train station one day. The same location I've posted about the car shows, however this was just a normal day, when I went to the cafe next to it. The owner was also volunteering some engineering on the steam trains, and came out to show me around the car, as obviously I'd been sniffing all around it!
There it was ... plenty can be found online in crazy extensive detail on Escort RS2000 rally cars, so I'll leave you to find about them more instead of putting my foot in it here if I don't get things just right!
Wide arches, proper flares going on here. Only an expert could tell me how original this is. I do believe it to be a fully built to resemble an RS2000 spec with a modern 2.0l Mondeo engine of all things. The engine however is still essentially a descendant, distant relative of the original - but it is basically the same 2.0 litre engine, just with decades of improvements.
Lot's of lovely details to enjoy, so I'm going to not ramble on too much. A picture tells more than words!
Great period graphics.
It looks great from this angle, the wheel arches are really cool. The tires are wide and look like they will help tame the RWD handling and power well. Maybe...
#ProjectLazurus is the hashtag this cars owner uses, and has named the car. You can search for more about it online.
Interior, some original, some additions like modern RS bucket seats, and below that Mondeo power unit.
Certainly looks the part, from many angles. Nice spotlights, with the period correct Cibie covers.
Ready to hit a forest stage or wet slippy Devon B-roads ...
There's a real nice stance to it, quite wild yet looking purposeful with it.
You can picture that tail hanging it out and those rear wheels smearing some tarmac ... burnin' rubber oh yeah! This thing will drift easily also, yet it's built more as a 'Fast Ford' homage for the local roads, which means good grip and control for the slippery country lane conditions.
Not an Escort. But it hit me, my fathers initials are on this carriage. Truly a splendidly surreal moment I had whilst finding and photographing this car.
Thanks for enjoying! See you in the next one.
