Whilst I personally do not subscribe to the idea of man-made climate change, our climate is undeniably changing, and it is also a proven fact that environmenally friendly means of electricity generation and transmission have been developed over the years, only to be suppressed and silenced by government agencies and vested interests. I received a stark reminder of this whilst passing through an area between the regions of Singleton and Muswellbrook in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
What was once rolling hills of grassland and spaced out trees is now torn asunder and covered in coal mine tailings. As I said, I have not seen evidence that man is making a contribution to climate change that even justifies a mention, but this unnecessary destruction of the landscape is inexcusable.
Even if one were to ignore the more exotic claims of low impact electricity production, there is one that is completely carbon neutral to satisfy the proponents of that idea, and aside from the presence of the power plant itself, also has zero environmental impact.
Geothermal Electricity Generation. Essentially drilling a hole down through the earths crust to the hotter outer core, and pumping water down through a piple, using the earths heat to boil it and produce steam which can then propel a turbine to drive a generator. If the water is captured when the steam condenses, the system becomes almost completely self contained and needs little more to keep it running apart from an occasional top-up of water supplies. A far better alternative to this:
And this:
