Plastics, anyone? I kind of wince everytime I look at the plastic bags that I empty after I do my groceries. I can only imagine how much these can contribute to the environmental problems we have when these will just end in the trash bin.
We have more than enough environmental problems globally. One of the major problems is plastic pollution. While government agencies are doing what they can to combat this, we can do our part by minimizing the waste. How? Let's recycle.
Instead of throwing your plastic grocery bags immediately after unloading your groceries, keep them for future use. They can be bulky and annoying like these ones if not organized properly so let's do it. Let me share what I learned from my niece (yes, from my niece) about how to fold these "properly."
Straighten and flatten the bag.
Fold it lengthwise from the middle.
Fold it again lengthwise from the middle.
From one of the edges of the folded strip, fold it to form a triangular shape.
Follow the triangular shape and keep folding the strip.
Until you come to a fold and shape like this.
If the remainder of the strip is longer than the height of the triangle, fold it at approximately the same height of the triangle. It will create something like a square shape on top of the triangle, like this.
Keeping the folded strip standing upright like on the photo, fold the upper left corner of the square to make another triangle shape. Let's call this the upper triangle.
Fold the upper triangle down and insert its edge into the pocket of the folded strip.
Insert the upper triangle firmly into the pocket to make it blend with the original triangle.
Now you have folded the plastic bag in a neat and very space-saving form!
Repeat the steps for all of your plastic bags. Here are my first batch so far.
With the second batch.
And finally done with all of them!
The very bulky bag of plastic bags is now just at not even half of the original bag where they were first stored.
If you have empty boxes, it will be much better to put them there. It will look neater and be more convenient for later use if they are organized in an empty box like this.
Ypu can arrange them according to size if the empty box is big enough to accommodate all of them.
Now that you know the tip, go save those bags and help save mother Earth instead of just throwing them away. They can be re-used a hundred times for as long as those are not yet torn.
This is how I spent my Saturday, by the way. 😊
