Aloha Hive Tribe!
This is the start of the story about my job as a climber. I start just with a few things, like an introduction of this part of my life, as I mentioned already in my personal introduction to Hive. Btw., there are many things in this very big, amazing and complex network, and still, my partner and I have to learn a lot in the world of Hive. We catch up with instructions and the latest updates. But our jobs, passions and hobbies take a lot of time. Be patience with us. We are grateful for every helpful hint and support. We love being a part of ListNerds and Hive Community, and do our part and put energy to let Hive thrive together.
Now I'm going to start talking about my job.
I've been working for more than ten years as a climber. The beginning was the most exciting time. Not only I was a newbie, no, it was because in almost every new job I met new peeps who are amazing - or were. This genre also has its sad sides. We always have to be aware of hazards around and within this job in heights and depth.
Anyway, I jobbed with stuntmen, skydivers, pilots, philosophers, actors, teachers, musicians, travellers, journalists, and so on, from around the world. And I could learn a lot from all of them.
My first couple of jobs took me around mid of Europe and I climbed on 150 meter high wind power plants, many types of skyscrapers, a testing hall for aircraft turbines, I've seen the complete inner of a whole power plant, I worked with concrete, paints, cables, electricity, drillers, squeegee, put a lot of banners on scaffolders, bridges and buildings. I felt like a job collector.
But I bumped into this job when it was already in its change. Nowadays, more and more normal peeps, great craftsmen, are here in this genre to encounter. Then, it was a profession and fewer climbers or unusual peeps were around. The focus changed to the direction of having a save job and bring save money home to follow societies standards. I'm talking about a daily job from Monday to Friday, being employed. Wow! I mean, I'm talking about a change within a decade.
Before it was a sessional job for most of the climbers, to fill up your bag with money and go back on your track, to your passions like travelling the world on a motorcycle or bicycle, or by foot, to finance your paragliding training, studies or diving training, and also to do nothing, just enjoy life - a job to have more days off and hang around... after hanging around.
Because of the change, more jobs were requested which are kinda boring, and now I take only the jewels, as long as I can, in the scene of nowadays industrial climbing as a rope access technician and supervisor, no longer the unusual climber. Besides, I do another climbing genre, which is taking care of trees - being a climbing arborist. I felt the change early enough to put my foot in other doors, kept learning and spread my branches. But for that, I'll come back to "being a climbing arborist" another time.
Now I'll take you with me and give you some impressions.
Most photos were made by myself, and one was made by a film production crew of Elbphilharmony Hamburg. Many jobs were in collaboration with 3KER RAS Group, Nawrocki Alpin, Seilcompany, Ropecoop, Seilpartner and 8.2.
Thanks fellows.
