I know everyone has different thoughts on this idea of cloning humans, one of two thoughts are most popular - Yes great way forward in humanity, or no intelligent individuals researching for no possible planned outcome.
Now my thoughts are slightly varied between the method of the cloning and what kind of cloning, for example Dolly the sheep that was cloned and lived an extended 6 years after death, I do not agree with this, because if this was the case for people then wouldn't that make it that you are no longer an individual? But in the cases of huge devastation - for instance parents whom can't have a baby, or someone has a traumatic injury with no chance of survival unless the key is from their own body.
These kind of cloning I am wholeheartedly for.
I have listed just a few of the types I do agree with and why I agree with them, this doesn't mean this should be the way- just my thoughts, please comment if you have different or extended thoughts!
Reproductive Cloning- Here are a few examples I wanted to show:
Parents who unfortunately are not fertile can have children that are genetically related.
Same sex couples can have a baby without the use of donor sperm or eggs. (The men only require a surrogate to carry the clone until birth)
Parents that have lost a child can have that child returned to them with a clone. ( I personally do not agree with this but thought would be fair to share)
Endangered animals can be cloned to save the species. ( again I do not agree, but I do understand why people are for this)
Genetic Replacement/ Traumatic Injury - Many people may not agree but I believe that cloning can be used to replace failing organs. This will allow more people to be saved with a shorter waiting list time. Not only that, the organ is your own, there would be less chance of rejection. Your body would recognise the new organ as your own. As well as this, healing and recovery time could be lowered because of cloning. Using the person’s own cells, they will be able to recover that much faster and easier. Using their own cells, they are given the chance to truly heal with less complications. (Why is this not happening now in my eyes)
Although I have listed a couple of my fave ways forward, I have came to terms with the biggest understanding why we do not do this as of yet, and here it is :
They say that the idea behind cloning is to harvest cells from a donor, raise them to the embryonic stage in a petri dish, and then place them in a surrogate to grow. However, there is a possibility that the age of the donor could make a mark on the growing embryo. due to which would cause premature ageing issues and potentially lead to premature death.
I know that there is a mixed ratio of pros and cons about this, but I believe that is how we make the best decision. Pros are great but do look at the cons. That is not all to what I think on this subject, so please wait for more to be added shortly!:D
