In my younger years, I believed in coincidences--things happening at the same time by sheer accident.
The longer I live, though, the more I believe that what happens simultaneously probably goes well beyond blind luck.
FACEBOOK TOOK MY BREATH AWAY
Several times a month I post photos on Facebook because I want to share scenes of grandeur that nature has given me for free. With that in mind, I posted the captivating sunset scene that graces this post.
Yet seeing the photo there was not the breathtaking moment. That happened a few minutes later when Scotty, a local attorney and friend, used the comment section under my Facebook post to display his sunset photo.
Astonishingly, his photo resembled mine in every slight detail.
Startled as I was by the similarity--correct that, by the indisputable sameness--of our photos, I replied to Scotty, "I wondered who that was standing beside me, who bumped into me."
Fact was, Scotty was nowhere near me. Somehow, though, the vantage point turned out to be flawlessly the same.
ANOTHER "COINCIDENCE"
During our dating years, my wife and I stopped seeing each other. I was pursuing a graduate degree, she was in college.
After several months of silence, I wrote her a letter saying we should consider getting back together. And guess what.
When she opened her campus mailbox, saw my letter, and read it--she did not mail her letter to me suggesting we reunite.
Coincidence? You won't convince me--nor her, nor our children and grandchildren.
Because of those same-day letters decades ago, here we are today:
COMMENT ABOUT YOUR COINCIDENCES
Wouldn't surprise me at all if you, too, have stories to share, reflecting that luck and chance may not be as prevalent in our lives as "mysterious occurrences" are.
I'll welcome your comments--now! Tell me about those unforgettable events happening at the same instant. . .which defy logic and the odds.
