This post is my contribution to @everlove's Collaborative Art Journey. The image she shared looks like something that got burnt in a fire and forms some interesting patterns with the negative space. It's titled Stretched Thin and it shows physically. Sometimes being stretched thin can be as much a mental occurrence. Sometimes it's done to us, and sometimes we're the cause of our stress. The image of something being pulled apart came into my head. Perhaps to snap back into shape, all that's needed is to let go. I used a combination of pen drawings and edits of the original photograph to come up with some art.
One of my reinterpretations of the original image.
The base for the collaboration.
The Process
I start with exploring what I can create by editing the photograph with Mirror Lab.
I noticed vague eye and mouth forms and thought I could combine them with some hand drawn art. The negative space in the photograph creates some interesting shapes and I wanted to try recreating my own interpretation of that. I draw a pencil sketch first, and then ink over it with pen.
I put my drawings through different filters with Prisma, just to add a bit of colour. I then combine them with the cropped eyes and mouth forms from my experiments with Mirror Lab.
Just for fun I used these images to make some gifs.
