This is an original song called Anxiety which is part of a musical I'm writing called Massterpiece (the extra "s" is for salvation).
Synopsis
Each year, the small community theater of Reeseville, Pennsylvania holds a local playwriting competition, and each year the process of weeding through the submission stack of small-town melodramas becomes more unbearable for artistic director, Stan Finch. But his fortune seems to change for the better when he pulls an unassuming and untitled manuscript from the bottom of the heap.
With dialogue so beautifully crafted it seems from another era, Stan knows before he is halfway through the first reading that he has found his winner and possibly his ticket out of Reeseville. Perhaps this is why he ignores things about the play that make him uneasy, particularly Reginald, its author who insinuates himself into control of the production.
On opening night, an unpredicted blizzard sweeps in, closing all roads and stranding the actors, director, and playwright in the theater. With nowhere to go and upon his insistence, they perform Reginald's masterpiece for him alone. Before the curtain call, each player will come to understand the reasons behind Reginald's odd and manipulative behavior, and they will understand his true motives, much to their soul-losing horror.
NOTE: to my knowledge, Don Knotts was not gay. This is a work of fiction.
I nominate @tenhanger and @harpooninvestor.
