@TaskMaster4450 wrote an article discussing the rise of Steemit to 700 in Alexa site ranks for the U.S. and how he thought that D.tube would rise in popularity. Go read it and give it a like and a resteem.
In my comment I expressed concerns I have about Dtube due to the current state of ipfs.
Here was our discussion:
wdougwatson:
I like D.tube but we need more ipfs nodes to improve network speed and we need ipfs support for android. The mobile market is a real stronghold for YouTube.
I also have concerns about the viability of ipfs for long term file storage. If certain videos aren't watched they get cleansed from the system. I know D.tube gives you 5 guaranteed years, but after that ipfs cleaning policies could wipe out older videos that aren't accessed in a certain time.
I have been thinking about file storage via blockchain. I don't know of any work being done on this but it should be feasible to multipart a file and store it in the blockchain. This might be expensive depending on the system used, and the chain would become HUGE very quickly.
iOno... Just my thoughts on the matter.
Thanks for the post.

Thank you @wdougwatson for your views.
Certainly, there is a ton of room for improvement with all the apps (and the blockchain in general). Long term viability of particular decisions need to be looked at. At this point, I feel we are standing at the beginning of a tremendous upward path....of course, along the way, more will need to be added, complimented, and even changed.
That is why having so many gifted and committed developers is crucial. These are really the "engine under the hood" that makes this thing go.
wdougwatson:
I fully agree with you there.
I read something the other day about Substratum and in the comments someone tossed out the idea of hosting Steem apps on there.
There are alot of possibilities and you are right, we are just beginning to glimpse what may be possible with this tech.
